who do I sound like?

Post by diogenes » Tue Nov 13, 2007 5:22 am

Hey everybody. I just got back from the rally. One thing that really stuck with me was an idea from Bobby Borg about finding your "Like Artists" and marketing to there fans. So I was just wondering who you think I sound like...thanksThe Deep Endhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=7413 ... =1Memorize My Lovehttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=74139&stream=1Much to my chagrinhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=74140&stream=true

Listening to The Deep End right now,I'm hearing a lot of The Freddy Jones band in there, specifically the instrumentation and vocal phrasing.Definitely an early to mid-nineties organic alt-rock sound. A bit of Freedy Johnston, a hint of The Replacements, Tonic, Gin Blossoms. Also, what part of Indiana do you live in? I'm posting this from Indianapois, Broadripple to be specific.Memorize My Love sounds a little more grungey. Kind of a Diet Alice In Chains, without the heroin-tinged lyrical commentary.

I was in that Bobby Borg session at the rally too- really useful stuff, I thought.I agree that there's something mid-90's about the style, though it's hard to say why exactly. The arrangement or production more than the songwriting, I think. I did think that sometimes the vocals reminded me of R.E.M.- though the songs themselves didn't really. So I wouldn't say your music sounds like R.E.M., but maybe a cross between them and one of those other groups mentioned. I didn't really hear the Gin Blossoms in those songs though. If I can think of anyone else I'll let you know!Did you give your cd to Bobby at the end of the session? He did say he'd follow up with "sounds-like" suggestions if you email him. Hmm- that reminds me that I need to follow up with him. Thanks for the reminder, diogenes!Michael

Tim, nice call on the Freddy Jones and AIC.Your vocal reminds me of Paolo Nutini a little.it's unique and pleasant.wish i could have been at the rally, sounds like i missed some good info.

Hey guys thanks for listening! Nancy Moran also brought up REM, so that could be a good place to start. I'm not familiar with Freddy Jones, I'm gonna have to google him. Thanks again..-Dax
