That's a pretty sweet looking axe allen..... The other part of the discussion..... is what I don't have that I wish I did.... I guess over the thirty years and liquidations of a studio at least 3 times... I 've had some nice instruments along the way... quite a few that I could kick myself now for letting them go.... like my 1982 Gibson SG custom..... and my 83 blonde Fender Tele..... It's gonna take a nice Taxi deal to replace them.... and there are many times I'm sure you all have felt the same way.... working on a recording and knowing you would like a certain sound.. and saying 'I wish I had a Tele..... I wish I had a Tele.... ' or 'I wish I had a Taylor for that part....' A lot of times in really well done recordings you can almost pick out the brand and some cases even the year....ArkJack

I bang away on a Guild D-25 that was given to me, and abuse a little Yamaha for slide and such. Love to once again own a 12 string...

I've been into midi guitar for a while. I've got a small guitar synth museum. I think I'm one of the two people that bought a Korg Z3 guitar synth with a sound generator based on Yamaha FM synthesis. (It actually tracks very well)I continue to keep up with the evolution.Roland is soon to start shipping the new VG99. This is the next step in their COSM guitar and amp and effects modeling technology. One of the new features is a midi converter function that will allow you to trigger soft or hardware synths from the guitar. Roland continues to be commited to the guitarist who is interested in advancing technologically. This should be a killer of a processor for six stringers.

Hey Al, I can't see that Peizo. Where is it located? Is it under your bridge, that's is where mine is on the classical electric. And what is it about that setup that helps your fingers stay relaxed?

I wish there was a guitar synth just dedicated to special sound effects, so I could get more of those types of sounds found on the Spectrasonic Atmosphere.

Ive got the GR33 as well. I like some of the sounds and it tracks well if you play the sounds properly. I've heard people in music stores playing power chords with a flute patch!!I have little interest in playing piano sounds from the guitar. I do like being able to play ethnic string and woodwinds sounds.I am looking forward to the VG99. I don't know if you've checked out the new features. There are dual processors for the guitar modeling stuff and as I've mentioned, an onboard midi guitar feature. There is also a USB connection and software to edit the sounds. You mentioned Atmosphere. John Mc Laughlin triggers Atmosphere from his midi guitar with Atmosphere installed on a laptop.Do you have any midi ready guitars? ( the hex pick up installed in the bridge)

I have the GR20 Roland synth with the pickup mounted on my SG... Whats nice about that is I can buy the divided pickup separate and add it to another guitar... The Roland sounds to me are great.... I get a fiddle sound that plays like a live bow, some people cant tell the difference. Same with the horns, has a real airy attack to it that gets pretty close to real. If you want I can dig some old tracks out and put them up on BJ... I'm also cracking..... I just can't take the pressure anymore.... I'm going to breakdown any minute and get the Roland RC 50 loop station.....ArkJack

And what is it about that setup that helps your fingers stay relaxed? In this system built by RMC the Piezo crystals are built into the saddles themselves. Mine are mounted into a Tone Pros locking bridge http://www.tonepros.com/.When I say my fingers are relaxed I'm just talking about how effortless it is to play fingerstyle on an electric axe with light strings and low action as compared to a good setup on a standard acoustic. Some of my New Age tunes sound more etherial when I play with the least effort.I would like to lend an opinion on MIDI guitar rigs. My current concept for the best system is like this:A solid body hard-tail electric guitarInstalled with RMC Piezo-based 13-pin MIDI SystemTriggering an AXON AX 100 MKII MIDI Converter by TerratecPlaying sounds on an Access Virus TI Desktop synthor the synth or plugin of your choiceThe Axon converter is considered to be the fastest on the market because it determines the MIDI note from the attack transient. It's also the most flexible system because of the definable picking zones. When the stripped down AX 50 USB unit comes out I'll go for because it's designed for us computer musicians/composers.But then there's that guitar-like MIDI device called the Z-Tar: http://www.starrlabs.comIt's a wonder we have time to create music with all the technology to learn about!

I just play guitar and I am kind of backwards and ignorant, but you guys are getting me excited and my ignorance is killing me. In fact, I have determined I properly belong in a cave painting. We have the guitar he bought with the synth, which is a cheap but decent strat with no whammy system. It is set up well for the synth.
