1+ years in Taxi, 22 forwards ...not a peep

Post by rezloh » Wed Dec 03, 2008 12:10 pm

Now I'm happy and honored that the good people at Taxi have passed my music along, but I'm starting to worry that I'm hitting a wall somewhere post-forwarded. I've been forwarded to 10 different postings, 22 songs and haven't heard a thing from any of the the companies. I've read that it sometimes takes time, but ...hrmmm ...the crickets are chirpin' ...thoughts?Best,~r

I hear you! It can seem like nothing's happening. My experience with this whole thing is that it took me 3 years and probably 40 or 50 forwards to land my first deal. Your mileage may vary but it really does take time. The fact that your music is getting forwarded is a good sign that you're able to successfully interpret listings and target your music correctly. That may be small consolation to you right now but that's actually a big accomplishment and one that many folks struggle to attain. Interpreting requests by the industry is a valuable skill, and not one to be taken lightly. One year is a short time. Hang in there.Mazz

I agree, just keep on writing. Use the listings to maybe broaden your style of recording (do something you would not normally do, you can learn from the critiques and expand your library genres at the same time)Hang in there...it is definitely a long term goal.

Rezloh,I have been a member 1.1/2year and only had 6 forwards. So just by being able to correctly read the listings, which I still find a nightmare to interpret you are a success on my book. The rest will come in time.Good luck to you.TINO

I've had 25 forwards since march this year, only been a member that long. I've learned that you have to expect at least 2-3 years maybe longer before you will hear anything. You can be fortunate to hear something before that, but that is not to be expected. I keep sending and sending, maybe when the time is right!

I've read that it sometimes takes time, but ...hrmmm ...the crickets are chirpin' ...thoughts?Best,~rWell, I think you have to think about (and use) the "10" figure and not the "22" figure. If you were selling copiers, you've made 10 sales calls (so to speak). The fact that you've shown several different models at each sales call doesn't particularly make much of a difference. It's the 10 sales calls that are important.Actually, 10 of anything (other than maybe 10 TedSingingFox's ) really isn't that many. Sending out 10 demo CD's... one wouldn't really expect to hear big news as you could do that in one single day. Taxi listings have better ratios as they are specficially requesting the music you're sending. Still... I send in lots of submissions inside and outside of Taxi and it takes a fair amount of "sales calls" before getting the deal.But... the Taxi experience you're getting is really part of the overall "reality check" education. It's why that "long-term" plan thing really helps keep the anxiety in check. Not hearing anything, say in the first year, is a disaster if you're on the "one-year plan" but not so much so if you're on a more realistic "five-year plan".Hope that helps, Dave

If nothing else the music business is a serious test in patience. If you are getting forwards regularly, you will see a deal eventually. You just have to keep plugging at it.-Steve
