I think I'll put a bet on Elvis coming down to earth in a spaceship. Apparently the odds on that are better than winning the lottery jackpot.

Well, I just entered with my best effort...and now I dare to hope! Whatever happens, this was a fun song to write...all about overcoming the odds...come to think of it, it'd be a great song to either make the cut with or NOT make the cut with!I was really impressed with the way the contest site was put together...very professional and user-friendly. The wording for the "contract" was very fair, too...they weren't trying to gain ownership of your song, only the right to use it in conjunction with the contest or program. The only restrictions were the US citizen thing, being 18 years or older, and that the song wasn't previously published. It also appears the top 20 get a $10k cash royalty against some type of mechanical sales; I wasn't too clear on that. The funniest thing was that although you have to be a US citizen to enter the contest, if there's some sort of dispute the High Court of England will be the arbiter...made me chuckle.Anyway, good luck to any of you who decide to enter.Andre

Well -- as you can tell from my lack of posting lately -- my little world has been busy, but I too wanted to take an idle... umm Idol shot:Threw this together too quickly - but here's my offering:Nothing Means as MuchI’ve had a whole lot of nothingAnd a little taste of successI know what it is to be downWith nobody left to impressBut no matter how dark it getsOr how bright the lights are shiningYou taught me something I won’t forget‘Cause every cloud now has a silver liningNothing means as much to me as youEverything is meaningless compared to loving youAnd in your eyes, I see the skiesAnd all my dreams come trueNothing means as much to meNothing means as much to me as youThere’s not a lot like winningWhen you’ve almost lost it allSome said I’d never make itBut I broke their crystal ballYou never gave up your faithEven when I didn’t believe itSo no matter what they may sayYou’re the only thing that I ever neededNothing means as much to me as youEverything is meaningless compared to loving youAnd in your eyes, I see the skiesAnd all my dreams come trueNothing means as much to meNothing means as much to me as youSomebody said it’s lonely at the topBut I’m not standing here aloneI couldn’t climb this mountain on my ownI’m not sure how long I’ll be this highI still see the valley belowBut even if I fall downYou’ll never let me goNothing means as much to me as youEverything is meaningless compared to loving youAnd in your eyes, I see the skiesAnd all my dreams come trueNothing means as muchAs the magic in your touchNothing means as much to meNothing means as much to me as you

The band is doing well - had our first gig a couple of weeks ago - have nearly an album's worth of new tunes that we're perfecting before serious recording... slow but steady progress. Aub

Hey thereGlad you liked the song. I get your meaning about the lyrics though. Well, it's a moot point anyways. I can't enter The singer, Ashley, is a friend of mine. She's quite good! Stylistically she comes from a country background, so I keep having to remind her when she's recording with me that she must be aware of what genre she's singing. We usually get good results though at the end of the day. Actually, we usually start recording at 10pm, so let's say at the start of the next day...Dave

AubGigging...cool! Are your groupies feeding you grapes yet? I'm looking forward to sharing my track with you all, but I'm gonna wait until after the contest is over is case they consider posting it on a site like Broadjam "publishing" it...which they probably wouldn't, but just in case - I'd rather not have my song eliminated on a technicality; it's perfectly capable of being eliminated on its own merits!
