Quote:Quote:LOL, so 'middle aged women' (women in their 40s as you put it) can't write cutting edge songs, eh? (at least that's what I think I read, there are so many messages here) Shall I take my knitting needles out right now? Btw, you are SO wrong. Well, I ask you humbly to give me an example. Nothing negative or depressing allowed - TFSS - "tortured female singer syndrome" - you know, no whiners or complainers......Diane Warren, 52

"Tortured female singer singer?" Forgive me, shakabrah, but I am ROFL. I think you have a lot of misconceptions about what songwriters write because of their age, sex, etc. Actually, many of my songs are aimed at the 18-35 year 'rocking country crowd.' And most of my songs are 'male songs'. Go figure. I've also written some alternative, R&B....I think anyone can write a cutting edge song aimed at any age group. You just have to keep up with current trends and listen to what's out there. The challenge comes in not making what you write sound like everyone else's stuff.

Quote:Quote:As a songwriter or as an artist? As a songwriter my target market is film & tv - that's why I'm a member of Taxi, to learn & grow into that niche. As an artist, I continue to explore my creativity, and that resonates with many folks between the ages of 15 and 70. I am a self-employed artist who makes her living through music. How about you?I like your voice and it seems your material would be aimed to film and TV - I agree. Your label name is a "hoot." Me? Been in the wringer lots of times. Did some cool things, worked with some fine people, putting songwriting on the front burner again, been designing to many surfboards. Threw some junk together for my TAXI site, nothing too spectacular but at least I'm in forward gear. Evolving and just trying to ask some questions in here. Here's my site and bio: http://www.broadjam.com/rickanthonyMy first two submissions were forwarded last month...whatever that's worth.I would like to consider everyone in here as a musical friend and those who don't, that's fine too. I've been around the block and "have been fired by the best!" - some top composer told me that one....Hi Rick, had a chance to listen to a tune or two...In "Take Me in Your Arms" I feel like the guitar - which is great - overpowers the vocals. IMO there's some interesting vocal counterpoint in the back-up vox (or something that sounds like back-up vox) but again the music is overpowering it. I like the groove & the solo. I'd encourage you to take something like that without the vocals and try submitting to film/tv.Cannibal4Love - what a great hook! Where's my whip? I like this one. You know, if you could get the same wild grind in the vocals that you have the amazing guitar, I think it would be even better. You might think of getting a gritty lusty male singer to cover this, with some breathy female back vox. Just my two cents, which, being Canadian, is about $0.0001cheersHummin'bird

Re: I Think I've Figured out TAXI
Shakabra,So far, I've only had 5 of my songs demoed, and I have not created a site yet. Hopefully, in the future, I will. You know, I don't think you have to write songs only from your experiences, in my case, a middle aged woman. If you're a good songwriter, you can 'get into the head' of a 20 year male or female, truck driver, rocker, whoever and think like they would, as crazy as they sounds. I often chuckle at people because they think I look like their mom, and when they hear my music, they say, "Whoa."If you think about it, songwriters are no different from fiction writers, we create characters and stories that don't resemble us in any way. I think it's about 'imagination.' If you have that, you can write good material no matter what your station in life.

But she may not count since she never gave birth. Had 14 siblings though, that's gotta count for something...even raised 4 or 5 of them with her husband Carl.

Youth does not have a monopoly on challenging the status quo... but it often has a inflated view of itself (thinks its ideas are new, better, that it knows more). Talent, skill and creative energy comes to any artist/songwriter who works at it on a consistent basis, has an open mind, is willing to learn, and is willing to follow their muse. I'm more interested in hearing music from folks who have walked a few miles... than those who are still in the walker... that's my bias
