Is Taxi a joke
OK I have been debating on joing taxi for sometime and i'm read to take my music to the next level. My question is Taxi real or a joke how many have really made it? how many jobs, vs forwards and overall cost, how many are with taxi because it is worth it , or the only real option , or just dont no anything else . I know thngs take time but who has in 6 months or a year with the service is doing it big? I know thes question and comment are very open but just give me good feed back before i join the good, the bad and the ugly.......

Re: Is Taxi a joke
Hi,Been with TAXI going on my 4th year. Don't submit that often (my fault) but always enjoy the Road Rally (FREE with memebership! great speakers, great time) Been forwarded about 5 or so times. Struck one deal with a small label through forwards. Got 2 songs placed in a music library through a contact I made at the Road Rally. Got my music in the hands of a few more people that could take it somewhere at this last Road Rally. Renewed for 2 more years because I enjoy being part of this.Regards,Raul

I like your name, Toonyfish. 'Tuneyfish' might have been an even better spelling for in here. There I go again. Analyziing and editing. I just can't seem to help myself. It comes from re-writing and re-writing those song lyrics. I guess you must be working very hard on your music. You seem to only come out every year or so to post here as you've only had 3 posts in 4 years. You may have it right though. Less posting. More actual songwriting. At any rate, I feel honoured to have witnessed one of your rare posts. lol Take care.

Ya know, I think this question gets asked about once a month at least. There are plenty of folks that have made some deals here, and lots more that at least were in the running for a cut. The question you have to ask yourself is... what's happening for me right now before I join? Anything? Are you sure you're getting in the door at all? Are you getting feedback on your songs? If you are.... you may not need TAXI. If not.... what do you have to lose... a little time... and a little cash. Weigh it out, and see.

And then there are those of us who have been members for seven years or more...I have no major deals, but my songs have been on the desks of quite a few major label execs -- from RCA on down; indie record labels, both major and indie publishers and music library execs. My songs have been in the same stack, and listened to with the same anticipation and consideration as every established songwriter with the most influential contacts. It has been a longer road for me, because when I started my Taxi membership, I had no idea that songwriting was little more than writing a solid song from the heart and expecting a flood of phone calls from publishers with offers to make my dreams come true. I had no idea of the business and its intricacies, the technical aspects, radio trends and formats, etc... Song structure? Theme? Market? Timing? What the hell is all that? Who cares as long as the song is good!I learned from the Taxi critiques... I soaked up every single rejection. Why is it so important to know the details of songwriting and master them? There are universities teaching songwriting as a major now...We are up against songwriters with degrees. To stay on that level playing field, we had better know at least as much about the industry as they do...To answer your question...Yes, Taxi delivers. But do the students always graduate?Nope. Not hardly... Many refuse to pay attention. Others think they already know it all. Some just lose interest and quit to find a not-so-tall mountain to climb. My first forward came four years after I joined Taxi. The thought of not renewing my membership never crossed my mind. I love the competition. I love the challenge to write the song that gets forwarded for the toughest listings.Yup, Taxi works bigtime for this songwriter. I paid my dues and I paid attention...Not to mention the great friends I have made over the years... That's another genuine benefit...

I've gotten a few forwards, no deals (yet), valuable critiques, and an encyclopedia of musical knowledge right here. Been worth every dime--even if I never make a deal thru Taxi. As Hook said, there are some great people here.

Hi Pitterpatter,I'm a forum lurker. I read more than I write. But you are right. The more writing, the better you can get and the more songs you have to submit!Best Regards,Toonyfish (I kinda like it that way.. more like a cartoon)

Hey,For my $$'s it would be worth it if getting forwarded weren't even an option (i've been forwarded a few times). The critiques are invaluable as far as developing your craft. How many record/publishing guys out there are gonna tell you no and then give you a detailed reason why? Hell. taxi will even help you improve your press kit. How cool is that? And lots of members do get deals, plus Taxi really is a very cool business to do business with. peas out!

Re: Is Taxi a joke
The people who find success through Taxi are also finding success through other means, because those are the people who go the extra mile in every way possible - the quality & appeal of their music, the ways in which they market it, the respect they show others along the way, etc.It doesn't mean you don't need Taxi, but if you're serious about being successful in the music biz then Taxi will do its part as much as ten or a hundred other approaches, and each will yield its own rewards. Is Taxi worth the money? To me and to many others who are able to see and benefit from its value(s), most certainly. Are there songwriters, composers, producers, and artists who find success without Taxi? Of course. Is it right for you? Well, what are your other options? <---[That's a semi-rhetorical question we should all be asking ourselves every day until we're turning down work from being in such high demand].After attending this year's Rally, however, I can answer your original question in just two words: no way.
