Songs that open with the chorus

Post by Casey H » Sun Oct 01, 2006 11:33 pm

HiCan you name songs that open with the chorus? The Beatles did it many times on songs like "She Loves You" and "Can't Buy Me Love", etc. It's not easy to have a chorus so bold you can open the song with it. I did it on my "What a World". (Not everyone agrees that it was the right thing to do on that song- some taxi reviewers did not)... I am happy with it that way. NOT comparing myself in any way to L & M !!! OK, names some songs that open with the chorus...ALSO, for fun, name some songs whereby the chorus starts on a minor chord.... The Beatles "Help", for example. Casey

My wife and I saw Firefall (a 70's band) play this weekend (a friend plays keyboards/flute/sax with them). "You Are The Woman" stuck out as one of those "chorus first" songs:You are the woman that I've always dreamed ofI knew it from the startI saw your face and that's the last I've seen of my heart

As I started typing, I thought of "You are the Sunshine of my Life" by Stevie Wonder. It is amazing though how many times the Beatles are the examples. They weren't too concerned about standard song structure, they just knew a hook when they heard it... Many of their songs were ABAB with no chorus. Casey

Hurry,I believe Chuck Berry's Rock & Roll Music starts with the chorus. I could think of them all day long until I need to.

Another one is the old Willie Nelson ballad Crazy. It comes in instrumentally with the chorus.

You da man on this on Horace! There are lots of them, only i can never think of them when asked! One thing most of them have in common is that the chorus is a real killer as in Build Me Up Buttercup. I'm not sure if for some of the songs you named, they really fall into this category. If the chorus is basically the same thing that goes throughout the song, I think that's different. I guess I'm thinking of songs that have actual verses that follow the opening chorus. I'm trying to remember, does Sugar Pie Honey Bun have any verses? My brain is fried right now.Anyone on here have any of their own songs that open with the chorus? Casey

Hurry,I've got several of my own songs that open with a chorus. This is so common that it baffles why any Taxi screener would admonish a submission for that reason. We could both think of examples all day long.
