Hattie Mae Tanner was imprisoned in the year 2000 for First and Second Degree murder, she has pleaded her innocence since her arrest. The state of Michigan prosecutors and judges have refused to release DNA which proves that she is not guilty of the crime she has been accused of. She is currently serving a mandatory life sentence and is in the court of appeals on a Habeus Corpus (A writ alleging that an individual has been unlawfully detained and ordering the official having custody of the individual to bring the person before a court for the purpose of determining whether the imprisonment was legal.) If the State of Michigan would release the DNA Hattie Mae Tanner would not have to go through the court of appeal for release. Hattie Mae Tanner is only paid 9 dollars a month for her work in Robert Scott Corr. Facility (the prison in which she is an inmate) so it is not humanly possible for her to be able to pay for an attorney to fight her case.
