Quote:Skydiving without a parachute will turn it off real fast...and permanently .Not necessarily! I once worked for a guy who's buddy survived a 10,000 foot fall with an unopened chute!! But it's not something I'd want to try myself...

I sit down in front of a piano with blank paper and a pen. I listen really hard to that music in my head. Then, like a musician practicing a new song, I learn the music I'm hearing. I write down the chords, the melody, words. It doesn't turn off but channels into a song.

When I was in school, one of my friends was playing the Berg Sonata (which is harmonically comparable to Schoenberg). One day, I walked into his practice room, and he was playing through it, and had headphones one. I asked him what he was doing, and he said "listening to Schoenberg".Maybe this is the secret to turning off the music. Sort of a music overload.

I'm from London; a pretty frenetic place to live. I often felt there was too much stress and noise clouding my mind so I experimented with various things on my minidisc player to help clear my head.Forget sounds of the countryside or whale songs or any of that new age crap.White noise does it for me.I used to record and produce entire minidiscs of white noise/distortion that I'd made in the studio and listen to it on the bus on the way to work. It does wonders for your mind. It's like silence. There's so much noise information that you hear nothing, like being underwater. It was through that that I got into Japanese noise music.

The music only comes on when I hold my guitar, otherwise you wouldn't, including me know I was a musician.
