Anybody seen, "Standing In The Shadows"? The Motown movie. What a cool flick! Really worth a look!

I haven't heard of it. Is it in theaters or on video? I love music movies.I enjoyed Walk The Line, though I never listened to Cash before. I did meet him when I worked for a promoter who booked him. His personal fee for an hour performance is 50,000. Another 25,000 goes to his band, crew and expenses. I thought it was a huge risk but my boss actually made money.

The band behind most of the Motown hits and many others.I'm into the music movies, too. Have seen them all except "Walk The Line". I'll see that one as soon as it's on dvd...

They spend a good bit of time on JJ, Ern. He was a one-finger bass player! Imagine that!

Yes, this was a great film! It was actually screened for all of the students in the music industry major here at Drexel as part of the "history of the music industry" course. Definitely worth watching.

Hooks,I rented Standing In The Shadow Of Motown. It is a great movie, especially for someone like me who spent the majority of my music career backing artists who got all the glory while I had to tell the the bouncer "I really am in the band, please let me in..."As I was watching it I realized that a friend of mine had told me the whole story of the movie a few years ago after hearing me complain about doing over a thousand gigs without getting fame or fortune. He was like, you think you got it bad, how about the Funk Brothers? Thanks for the recommendation.Nomi

Yes! It was so nice to see, that for once, the 'behind the scenes' people got the recognition they truly were owed. Here in Nashville -- I'm in Nashville right now -- many times an artist who's interested in cutting a particular song, will ask for a piece of the writer's share just because they can. That's just the way things are in Nashvegas. And even though they had nothing to do with the writing, a small handfull of artists will do the PR thing and sell a story about their writing the song. That irks me a bit.Anyhoo, getting back to the movie, I was really impressed with the fact that those guys were pounding out hit after hit just improvising music to a page of lyrics. In today's world, they'd be incorporated, seriously in demand and making monster money! Huge money!
