Jazz Museum...
Hi folks -I got some nice press yesterday in the Valley News section of the Daily News. They published a story primarily about my father and my quest to build a jazz museum dedicated to west coast jazz. What a great music library it is - more than 500 hours of largely unreleased jazz masters recorded by many of the definers of the west coast jazz movement spanning four decades of jazz in Hollywood. Seems like the motherlode for film and television licensing, doesn't it?Well - here's the direct link -http://www.adquest3d.com/da/content.cfm ... =1343939It was very nice of them to publish this story for us... much needed press... they were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of what we have...I pray every day that God allows me to make this a reality...

AWLRIGHT, VON! It's a great article, you really had the opportunity to tell a good story about "The Bear". I'm sure he'd be proud.I guess you got to meet some real legends (besides Harry),I hope you weren't a pain-in-the-neck kid back then.I tried the cello once, but it was hard to make good power chords.
It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere

That's a great piece of music history. I hope you'll invite me to the opening of the museum.

Quote:I hope you weren't a pain-in-the-neck kid back then.hehehe....You know how it is when you're a kid - you don't even realize who you're with. Ray Brown, Herb Ellis, Jimmy Wyble, Jimmy Rowles, Shorty Rogers, Jack Sheldon - they were just my dad's buds. I would hang out all day at the drum shop they mention in the story - Drum City. That's where our museum will be - it's got SO much musical history it's sick. When I was REALLY young, we all went to the airport to see my dad off - he was doing a USO tour to Alaska with Bob Hope in 1959. I was only four - but we got a chance to meet Steve McQueen. He was the star of a TV show back then called Wanted: Dead or Alive. My brother and I both couldn't stop calling him Josh Randall, his character's name, no matter how many times our parents told us his real name. The price of stardom...I don't know what brought that to mind...

Re: Jazz Museum...
Interesting point - I've budgeted a business plan that calls for about 2.5 million dollars to create the vision of the state-of-the-art jazz museum, or about the same as it costs to air a 30-second commercial during the super bowl. Yet, I believe the positive press that would be generated by the philanthropist that made this a reality would resonate for years to come, far beyond the instant gratification of a super bowl ad.Funny where American cultural priorities lie...
