Neither is "better" overall. If you know what kind of airplay you'll be getting (and it's mostly one specific type of airplay), then one might pay slightly better than the other but in general I think you'll find it to be a wash.So I won't vote, but I'm with BMI and happy overall.

I wondered that too before i signed up for a PRO, went with ASCAP... But think of it this way; if one was proportionally better, then the other would no longer exist.

Thanks Matto... I just read an article before reading Ur post here and I saw that U are with BMI... very interesting article U shared. Thanks Jamie... I'l prolly stay with ASCAP only becos my PRO is automatically linked to them unless I choose not to... and I'm too lazy to change that especially now that I know they're not much different...Appreciate the infos here...-Kel

If you want a very non-scientific way to choose, do what I did... Find out which PRO your favorite band uses, and sign up for that one.

the experience my husband and i have had with ASCAP is that they're not very interested in helping you or working with you (to make sure you're getting the money rightfully due you) unless you're a major money-earner/writer. from conversations we've had with other ASCAP members, we're not alone in this perception. just my two cents. wish we'd have gone with BMI. erin

What about SESAC? I hear that because they're smaller you get a little more of the personal touch. Cam

They are both the same in the lack of a personal touch. Supposedly ASCAP is going to pay more for instrumental tracks and less for vocal tracks. While only slight it is a little bit more money. I don't know if this has been put in place yet, and I can't even remember where I read it so I may be full of it!
