It's hard to predict if it could be a problem, I think it would depend on the specific situation. For example if the library had placed the song in a fairly high profile situation, it's conceivable that might decrease the song's desirability...but it might also increase it...I think the most likely potential conflict is if the artist's publisher and/or record label wanted to assume the publishing of the song, which happens a lot when we're talking about big established artists. The fact that a library controls some piece of that song would almost certainly be a thorn in the big publisher/label's side and might cause them not to cut the song.Difficult decision. I would say it depends on how much you believe the song has a real chance of being cut...if you feel it's your best shot at a major lable artist cut yet, I'd probably hang on to it and ask the library if you can write them a replacement...matto

Their non-exclusive agreement wouldn't keep another publisher from doing anything they wanted with it. Of course, they could be viewed as "competition" for placing the track.Dec 5, 2008, 10:33am, matto wrote:if you feel it's your best shot at a major lable artist cutI sure hope not. The song gets good response (for its intended market) from listeners, but I like to think I always have something better up my sleeve if I keep working at it. But it certainly has some potential in my view.I think I'll see what the library is looking for and go from there. Thanks for your response, matto!André
