Entertainment Attorneys
One thing that is essential in this business is to find a trustable entertainment attorney that is not a crook. I thought it would be good if you know of one in your general area we could post their names so people have a starting point for their search.Wallace Collins is a great attorney in NY that is very knowledgeable and understands that not every musician is a millionaire.www.wallacecollins.comPlease post if you know of good people in your area. Or post if you know someone to avoid cause we need to be on the look out for that too.

Re: Entertainment Attorneys
In California there's California Lawyers for the Arts. I've had one of their attorneys (who donate a portion of their time to the cause, it's a non-profit) look over a contract for me. A half hour consultation was......FREE.............!!!!!www.calawyersforthearts.orgThanks for starting this thread Jon!!Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Joshua P Binder (www.joshbinder.com) is good. So is Ben McLane (www.benmclane.com). Both are in LA.

Re: Entertainment Attorneys
In this day and age, are any of these folks available via long distance? Is that feasible? I know it would be a bit trickier, but if they are well referred, then it might be "less risky".Another place to check can be tax people that specialize in music. They may be able to refer someone who has some history, and the tax person should be able to at least say if they (the attorney) seem straight forward?

Re: Entertainment Attorneys
That would be great if some of those guys were available long distance. I haven't yet found someone in my neck of the woods (Granted I haven't been looking too hard yet - I haven't had a contract to have someone review )Trent

Re: Entertainment Attorneys
You're welcome Mazz. Most Entertainment Attorneys will work with you no matter where you are since everything is done by email and electronically these days, but some prefer to have their clients close, it all depends on the situation really.

You should always keep the originals, send the copies to your attorney.

Re: Entertainment Attorneys
Perhaps entertainment lawyers are of a higher caliber, but based on my experience with lawyers... well, I apologize to all lawyers for my thoughts, but these thoughts will remain until I have evidence to the contrary they are worth their money.Foglyte whose sister happens to be an attorney, sorry sis.
