Ah... touching on the part that I have NOT paid much attention to: allowing the downloading of tracks posted on my Soundcrowd page -
is that a GOOD THING to do? Mostly because I just forget to address that "PERMISSIONS" part of the upload process.

OR - how do YOU select/decide which song/pieces you are willing to share that way?
I presume that a simple repost does NOT involve any changes, as you suggest.

FYI, From a Taxi Friendly library that randomly culled through my souncloud page, I signed an exclusive deal for a tune after they PM'ed me through Soundcloud. So... Yes it can happen. And my page is not organized like some of our top members. I think we should all pay attention to organizing our page... (Says the plumber with leaky pipes at his home)

I do find SC a bit cumbersome when it comes to organizing files.. it does look like a mess to me.. Personally I'm having my player on my website, and I do upload sporadically on SC.. but I am open to advices and general rules of thumbs :)

Yeah, I'm aware of that. But that's the whole point of me having a server like SoundClown: To have people stream high(er) resolution music files. And I PAY them for that service (it's free up to a certain amount of uploads, but since I have about 100, I pay for it!). If I wanted prospective clients to listen to crappy mp3s, I'd use Reverbnation or some other lousy website.

Many people say "Oh, I can't hear any difference between a 128 mp3 and a .wav file." If so, they must be deaf! It's completely unprofessional to have your music on a website with such low resolution... I know, I know, mp3s are MUCH smaller sound files. But that's SoundClown's problem, not mine.

Time to research having my OWN website where I can have my music in the resolution that 'I' want!

Soundcloud is a music awareness site in my opinion. It's an online resume or portfolio. If people like your music they will contact you, they won't care if it's a low-res mp3 or a high quality wav. They know what Soundcloud is and does.

I sometimes post tracks that I've signed in one of my lists, but I will include something like "signed" in parentheses, or say "as heard on The Kardashians" or whatever. This may add some street credibility for the right visitor.

I also use Soundcloud to create private lists of songs I'm sending to a library. "Here's a list of ten tracks in style X that are currently available, let me know if you would like any of and I can WeTransfer you the hi-res versions." I also use private lists when reaching out to new contacts: "Here are five tracks that I think are a great fit in SHOWNAME which you are supervising. I'd like to give you first shot at claiming this if interested, I'd love to become a quality resource for your music needs."

Soundcloud is a tool, tools need to be used properly. I upgraded to the Pro version so I could have five highlighted playlists and more storage. I also try to keep it updated, pulling out older files and replacing with more current content when necessary.

I'm not sure really the nuts and bolts of streaming. I mean if you are listening on your smartphone and don't have an unlimited data plan, it might eat up a lot of data listening to hi-res streaming, and maybe there is a choice for the user to limit their bandwidth useage?? And doesn't the user pay a premium at places like Spotify for a higher stream resolution?? I'm not even sure wav quality streaming is even offered?? I know youtube offers different settings for videos.

Hi All,
I'm a newbie here, Love the forums and love the site. I am also in the process of setting up my first solo album after 25 year of helping everyone else out :) .
What is interesting about SC is the financial set up ,yer of course we don't do it for the money ..right. But the returns set up when compared to some of the streaming sites.
Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking the $0.000003 or whatever the going rate is just curious what your experiences might be and the traps and pitfall s of getting Home-brewed music out there.

All the Best

Paul

You're not even going to get that on SoundCloud. SC is a completely free website when it comes to paying its content providers. Sheesh, even Pandora pays more money than SoundCloud, and we PAY to be a part of SoundCloud.

That being said, I've got a Pro account (like $135 annually), and find it to be invaluable. I've signed one lucrative deal from having a publisher peruse my site and discover music he liked which has since translated into thousands of dollars in my pocket. And their playlist function is easy to embed into your own personal website, which saves you the hassle of having to figure out other ways of making your music available to interested parties.

[quote="MikeC"]I noticed that a lot of Taxi members have their own Soundcloud so I'm assuming
theres no problems with posting Cues that you have signed to libraries??[quote]

Since SoundClown is not a monetizing service, there shouldn't be, right? You aren't selling the music there, so there shouldn't be a conflict, is my take on it.

Of course you can always post private links.

SoundCloud is laying off 40% of its workforce:
