Pricing.

Post by michael11 » Wed Jun 24, 2015 1:20 am

I am really thinking about people who have tracks in RF libraries with the option to price their own tracks.

BUT as a matter of principle.

Do you equate cheap with poor quality.

I should say, that I know Taxi and Michael in particular ,strive to get your work on to the most prestgious desks in the biz so this may well not apply to you.

But in all walks of life.

Is cheap, rubbish?

I would say for most things, I do equate inexpensive with poor quality.

Music is a little different - as its more about fit. You might find 100 pieces that don't quite fit right for what you need (if you a picture editor for example) and maybe one that does. How much is that worth to you? Assuming all the pieces you auditioned are produced to a similar standard.

Hi Andy.

Thank you for your reply.

As with everything you talk about on this board.

The perfect answer.

Pricing is an economic term. Cheap is a variable connected to cost. Cost minus subsidy equals cheap?? And finally the economic system defines the accounting method.

So I would say cheap and quality has nothing to do with one another in actuality, that has more to do imo with marketing, advertising, and propaganda, MAP,lol!

Commodities like gas, corn, gold, music, beef, aren't affected by the price-to-quality-ratio.

A commodity isn't a commodity when it has some extra perceived value, like special bi-color sweet corn, prized breeding bull, hit record, and some things that are very well MAP'd.

Obviously fermented corn, bad music, 4D beef (dead, diseased, decayed or dying), wouldn't be treated as a commodity, and priced less,

and then there are sales or bargains, lol

General perceptions, opinions and predjudices about pricing:quality, or cheap:rubbish imo wouldn't be a rule or code to live by.

So, you are producing quality work but your concern is how to price it for "appearances".

If you price it low, you may get more usage. However, the low price may discourage high-tier users to consider the songs. If you price it high, then you may discourage users with no budget.

Why not take the middle ground here and shoot for the 1/3 price mark? (1/3 from the bottom and 2/3 from the top) If a no-budget client can't find what they are looking for in the bottom-end stuff, they may be inclined to pay a bit more. And a high-end client would see that the song is NOT priced dirt cheap and therefore its perceived value/quality is higher.

But then... how many "high-end" clients are really shopping RF sites?

In sidewalk "blind" tests, Skid Row winos win hands-down every time against wine connoisseurs & chefs from 5-star restaurants & hotels, when deciding which is the premium stuff; and which is the cheap stuff.
Experience is often the best judge. :? :D
