Pro Tools 9 or Logic for TAXI work?
I have a week to decide! Im looking for new software as my old Cubase LE is a joke in this line of work! I know Im going to have to put in the hours but, for quality sound which will go straight from my mac to TV placements or wherever I'd like it to go, which is better? I would like to use drum loops and virtual instruments and be able to put music to video eventually. I'm not a technical genius so the easier the better but I'll learn how to use it properly anyway. Training is not an option - it's essential! Thanks for any advice.

I'm a Pro Tools guy but if I had it to do over again I just might go Logic. It's a very complete package, seamless integration with macs, hard to beat it seems to me. Also, if you're using Cubase why not get the latest and greatest from them? I hear rave reviews about it.

I am no expert either and my learning curve will be steep climb, but I've decided on Logic 9 because of the Mac connection.
Hopefully the integration between Logic 9 & Mac will be seamless, cause me less headaches and let me keep on creating.
For training - I have joined up with: macProVideo.com for it's online tutorials.

If fast, flexible and intuitive MIDI editing is a big part of your workflow, get Logic; there is no difference in sound quality, but Logic began life as a composer's tool, while ProTools was originally for professional engineers, who generally expected the talent to be able to nail their part. I agree with Ethan. If you already know Cubase you'll probably be better off going to Cubase 6. Go with what you're familiar with & you'll spend more time making music & less time learning new software (and pulling your hair out)-

If you are unhappy with something, change it so you become more happy. Always a good principle. I believe daily frustrations can ruin your productions, as it takes away focus and the motivation to listen, discover and experiment.
So, if Cubase LE does that to you, it's time to move on.. I suggest you take a look at the DAW shootout at Digital Music Doc, before you get all jacked up about what to expect from other daw's, though http://www.digitalmusicdoctor.com/shootout/index.html

Really good advice. I went through this a number of years ago with Digital Performer. I just wasn't feeling it - although I know it is a great DAW. So I did some research and switched to Logic. I just got it from the start. It makes sense to me.thesongcabinet wrote:If you are unhappy with something, change it so you become more happy. Always a good principle. I would suggest, before going one way or another, go to an Apple store and play with Logic (they always have a machine running a copy) and go to another retailer and play with the new version of Cubase, Digital Performer, Studio One and Pro Tools and see which one fits in with your personal style. The reason there are so many DAWs to choose from is there are so many people that choose them. Each one works a bit differently, as do their operators.

Try the Studio One Pro demo. It's incredibly stable, very small footprint, lots of great features and no bloat.

If you know Cubase LE fairly well, upgrading to Cubase 6 will give you the smallest learning curve. And Cubase 6 is certainly on par with Logic or Protools over all.
If you don't like the way Cubase works, then demo both Protools and Logic and find out which seems more suited to the way you think/work.
None is 'better', and all of the current top DAWs are more than capable of putting out top notch broadcast quality tracks...if YOU are capable of the same.
FWIW, I have daily placements on network and cable tv and still use (fairly old) Cubase 4.5 to produce all my tracks...
