Re: Production Music - sting?
I should also mention, regarding my own stinger placement, that the song in full, both with and without vocal is in the same library. They made the stinger in this case. So, there is always the chance that a lot more of the same song will get used down the road. The small pocket of change made for me here is a little extra nicety and doesn't at all mean there won't be more income from this song in larger chunks.

Yeah, I would kinda hope that would be the case. In this particular library, they seem to be quite suddenly changing their focus to Custom Cues. Why this is different from general library tracks, I'm not sure. Because they will send out an email saying what they need, and when we send something in, it will still have to be auditioned and placed in a separate Custom Cue library, I guess, along with everybody else's cues that you're competing with, with no guarantee they'll be used. Only these ones are exclusive now. (As opposed to the regular library tracks, which are nonexclusive.)
So I hope these custom cues have a chance of getting used more than once also.

I'm in the same library, and the difference with the custom cues is that they go on a hard drive straight to the edit bay on the shows the cues are written for (assuming they are accepted). So they are not sitting in the general library waiting for clients to audition them or for the library folks to find them and push them for some opportunity. These tracks we're writing are at the production company ahead of the rest of the library. I heard one of my custom tracks on a show about a month ago and that's only about a couple of months after I submitted it! So the custom thing could turn out to be a good gig. I figure, I'm going to be writing anyway, why not have the piece go straight to the client!

Cool, that's good to know.mazz wrote:. . .the difference with the custom cues is that they go on a hard drive straight to the edit bay on the shows the cues are written for (assuming they are accepted). Speaking of that, do you know how they determine what show they're gonna pitch your song for? I know the latest email mentioned a couple shows - one of them was looking for southern rock, country rock, etc. But then, later on it says that, in general, clients are also looking for all-around pop/rock. If I'm pitching what I think is a southern rock track, how can I be sure they'll put it in for that particular show, and not just the general Custom Cues consideration?

Thanks guys for clearing this term. I watched today "How do the do it" accidentally
and mostly listen to all the music, but those short tracks are usually fast and I don´t
take a note, there is something going on
next time I will remember your words...
