Question 70s style listing
I couldn't tell specifically from reading this. They obviously want songs that were written in the 70's, but the ' recorded in the 70s ' part is confusing. Does this mean that the song would have to be an MP3 submitted that was digitized from an original tape recording? Or, are they accepting a recording of a song I did in my studio two years ago of a song I wrote back in the day, that the recording has the 'old school' sound, feel, technique etc. of a 70's style song and recording? ANd regarding the copyright certificates, do they actually have to be dated in the 70's? or... can they be songs I wrote in the 70's that I copyrighted in the 80's and recorded in the 000s'?EW LISTING -- ORIGINAL SONGS RECORDED IN THE '70s IN ANY STYLE are needed by a Music Publisher who has signed and placed tons of TAXI songs in various Film/TV projects. Songs with vocals are preferable, but instrumentals are just fine too. The key to this listing is that they're wanting songs that were authentically recorded in the '70s era, not just new material that is recorded with a '70s feel. Any style is just fine, but the quality of the writing/songs and the sound of the recording need to be excellent. This is a broadcast quality listing -- they will not re-record your song. Again, they're specifically looking for songs that are copyrighted and recorded in the 1970s. Many of their Film/TV clients ask for the "real deal", so there could be great placement opportunities here! Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS -- NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI -- and must be received by May 30, 2008.TAXI # Y080530TV

Re: Question 70s style listing
Hey Arkjack - it says in the listing "they're wanting songs that were authentically recorded in the '70s era, not just new material that is recorded with a '70s feel." So I guess they HAVE to be from the 70s. How will they know though? Will it be that obvious I wonder? Maybe you could transfer to tape and then back to digital!!Mather

I had the same problem for that listing. I think they have to be recorded in the 70's

Re: Question 70s style listing
I absolutely cannot fathom anything I recorded in the 70's to muster broadcast quality. My studio back in that day consisted of two RadioShack stereo cassette recorders and Realistic battery powered condenser mics through a battery powered Radioshack mixer, and a Danelectro tube amp. It was 4 generations of ping-pong and a live drum kit and pre-dolby. So I guess thats' that.....ArkJack

Man. I have a couple of lps of stuff from the 70's written or co-written by me but I don't own the rights. bummer. Arkjack, I'd love to have that old Danelectro tube amp now for a harp mic!

Billg, I know what you mean, I wish I'd known before I sold at the 1988 garage sale when I liquidated the 3rd Kajon studio..... (in preparation to turn the room into a nursery for my son who is now 18....)...

Re: Question 70s style listing
Actually, I am old enough to have recorded a couple of original things back in 1977 with a "show-band" group... yeah, yeah, I had hair back then. Real L.A. studio and all that. It was a rush at the time. They are on cassette, and my writing has improved a bit (!?! I hope !!) in the last 30 years. So I have mixed feeling about this listing. I think I will scrounge around and see if I can find 'em and ... if not TOO embarrassed post 'em for some comments here.

Re: Question 70s style listing
I agree with the sentiment that if it was any good in the 70's I would have sold the rights long ago !! These were all done in a 8 or 16 track studio on Santa Monica Blvd in LA (I think the site is a McD's now!). We were a band from the midwest, so it was quite a treat for us then. The last tune is a co-write, and I was able to find the other fellow (thank god for the web!) and got permission. I borrowrf a (pretty old and decrepit) reel-to-reel tape deck to salvage these one-offs made from the master, and it took about 4 tries for each tune to get enough clean parts that I could paste together the clips in my DAW. The tapes were actually in pretty good condition for 33 years old! Had to EQ 'em a bit to brighten them up. But, the listing asked for "the real deal"... and this is the REEL deal. If nothing else from going thru all my old tapes of other groups, I did get in touch with some old friends (one of whom is a rather famous jazz guy!) I welcome any feedback from y'all. Re: Question 70s style listing
I absolutely believe that they mean it has to sound authentically 70s to the point that the people who wrote the description, who obviously don't have a clue about what a decent (non-existent) home studio rig would've cost back then........aaaargh!I'm guessing that only an over-forty musician with tons of analog experience could possibly have a shot here. The problem as I see it, the folks who might have this material don't typically own their copyrights due to standard industry practices of the seventies.(well the song copyright, sure, but not the phonorecord)I have heard material suitable for this by writers who are 'stuck in the seventies', problem is, they don't know it and would therefore never submit.Unless maybe you're Bootsy Collins, and you have a ton of unreleased master tapes that were rejected by Casablanca....
