Question about rules, can we sell stuff here?

Post by mikeymike2000 » Thu Jan 10, 2013 8:37 pm

Hi all,

So I have been around here for a short while and know all the rules, I think but I am not sure about this one...

Can I post something for sale or can the moderator create a section to post stuff?

Have a book that was pretty pricey and helped me out A LOT but now that I am done with it, it's in mint condition I would like to offer it up to a fellow passenger for a lot less than the cost of it new.

I has to do with midi orchestras and it is about 600 pages, hard cover.

Just don't want to see it collect dust here. Sure I could put it on Ebay or Amazon but I wanted to first see if we can "keep it in the family" so to speak.

If it is against the rules I will edit out all the allusive info I gave and use the other avenues.

+1 on having a moderated "for sale" section.

I think a for sale section would be most useful - as long as there's no one unscrupulous enough to buy cheap and resell on eBay just to make a profit :(

Maybe I'm just an old cynic ?

What ?!? You have something that you don't have a use for anymore and you want to get rid of it???

Wow, I envy your discipline. You must have a really neat and clean, uncluttered, fung shway work space. ( i have a hard time even throwing away old underwear and... oops, never mind)

Anyway, CDs, downloads, newsletter subscriptions and more get posted here. Why not a way-cool book like that one eh? BTW, what is the title? I'm thinking there are a lot of orchestral wanna-be's (ME!) that could use a "hey check out this book."

I do hear that selling family members is frowned upon. :o

@Amanda: if this type of section were to be created, it would take someone a lot of effort to make a profit. I would imagine books would be the primary thing that changes hands in a group like this.

@Russell: well, kind of... things get cluttery and then I go on a rampage to clean clean clean. (Just donated 3 big 'garbage bags' full of stuff to a local charity based store and that was just my closet!) - - Product information edited out as this is not something we do here - -

Anyway, a clean work space is a happy work space. :)

@Casey: that is another really good idea!

Mike,
My 2 cents: If you have something music-related that you want to sell, just quietly post it under the "gear" section, let nature take its course. I know it's been done here before, but not that often, as I recall. However, with my "businessman" hat on, I would think Taxi might not want to do anything too formal or official in sponsoring or facilitating buy/sell activities (legal liability and such.) The rules section says they are not responsible for what gets posted here, but it also says "no advertising"... so keep it low key and informal and chances are you won't ruffle any feathers.

Thanks Stan.

In this case I will just put it on Ebay then. (and ask full price)
