Quicky question about a new listing :-

Post by mattharveymusic » Wed May 16, 2012 3:15 pm

Here's the listing :-

ICONIC CABLE CHANNEL looking for CONTEMPORARY, FUN, BEAT-DRIVEN INDIE or ALT ROCK SONGS a la Fun, Foster The People, The Naked and Famous. This is a chance to have your music heard by millions of ears! QUOTING THE MUSIC SUPERVISOR: "We're selling light-hearted, summer fare, not drama or anything too serious." MALE or FEMALE vocals will work here; just make sure you have a distinctive sound that connects with listeners! Tracks should be ear-catching and inventive with plenty of rhythmic drive. Keep your lyrics creative and fresh! ORIGINAL SONGS ONLY - NO COVERS! Broadcast quality is needed (excellent sounding home recordings are fine.) Your demo presentation must be top-notch, both vocally and instrumentally! You MUST own or control 100% of your master recording and publishing. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Monday, June 18, 2012. TAXI #S120618AR

I've got a track which I'd really likely submit as I think it's really close, but I've got it signed to a library on a semi-exclusive deal (ie They have the unique right to pitch it, but I'm allowed to license it directly to a Music Supe or Advertiser etc). Sounds to me like forwards will go straight to the supervisor but it doesn't explicitly say so.

Is this an appropriate listing to submit a track signed to a semi-exclusive deal to? Will other TAXI members in a similar situ be submitting?

Thanks. :)

I would call Taxi direct tomorrow and speak in person. Google Voice is like $0.02 per minute and will ring your local phone then connect you with anywhere in the world for really cheap.

If you have the right to license it then they do not have the EXCLUSIVE right of the song other than you cannot put it into another library. Not an attorney here but it sounds to me you can still do whatever you want with it. There is no way you could license this song without pitching it. Unless it is a tricky sticky agreement you have with the library. - still call Taxi direct. They seem to always specify if the pitch is for a library by specifically saying that in the listing.

You have till June 18, so that gives you plenty of time to email Taxi and confirm that this listing is direct to music sup. I mention that in case you don't want to do it by phone... http://www.taxi.com/abouts/contact.html

It looks like the listing is direct to sup, but best to confirm. Obviously, if it is direct, you can submit without violating that contract.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the replies! I thought it would be okay, just wanted to be sure. Sent an eMail to Taxi who promptly replied that this listing IS direct to supervisor so I'll be able to submit, along with anyone else who has tracks in a similar deal.
