Re: Instrumental- Long Walk Home

Hi greggo
Nice song liked it a lot. I feel it could do with some thickening of the strings from about half way through....perhaps some complimetary chords. From about 1:27 it seems to lose a bit in the quantizing.....and while i don't like to over-quantize things it sounds as though it could do with a bit of formality to get the bass and rhythm playing spot on together. Nice feel to it though.....sure it'll do well.
Cheers
Sizzler

I listened to this one just a few minutes after you first posted it up, but I didn't know how to respond. I wasn't sure if there was a glitch in the player or not, so I decided to wait for others to chime in. I'm relieved to see I wasn't the only one who didn't care for the added guitar noodling. It distracted my ears from what began as a lovely piece. And being as out of time as it was killed this one for me. I don't think this is quite there yet, but it's much closer without all that noodling. I think your potential with this piece is enormous, but you'll need to polish it up.

Thanks Taeko, Sizzler and Ted for the comments. I didn't do any quantizing, Sizzler. Should I have? I don't have much experience with that. Yes, Taeko, please send the link to your collab with Matt, if you're able. I remember listening to them when you first posted them, but didn't think about how they'd relate to what I'm doing. I completely respect the both of you and I sat in Matt's "5 year plan" class at the last rally. So it'd be cool to hear those again.

Anyway, I took out the 'doodling', adjusted a few levels and ran it through ozone mastering. http://www.reverbnation.com/tunepak/2510787.

Thanks again!

Much better Gregg - My ear felt like it could focus and follow and anticipate where you were going. Only thing now are afew spots where the drums seem to drop out of the pocket. Are you playing those manually? Might benefit from some quantizing, I know that's a bad word to some folks but sometimes you gotta do whatcha gotta do...eo.

Thanks so much for taking another listen eo. Glad it's heading in the right direction. Not sure about quantizing. Do I quantize the whole drum track, a certain section, or what?

I would try quantizing the track and experiment with different settings until you find one that tightens it up but doesn't make it sound like a robot.

I like it. I think the intro section, just guitar and strings, could use some dynamics. But even so, good work!

Good Luck!

Thanks for stopping back and giving it another chance Ted!

Thanks Jen!

I'll try the quantizing eo, but I didn't play the drums manually. So maybe the guitar is out of sync? I'll take a closer look.

you guys are the best
