Read your return critique, get a forward next time!

I have to thank screener 387 on the outstanding critique he/she gave me for a Chillwave cue that got returned last month.

Note it was a Dispatch listening which normally gets just a Yes/No, but I got an awesome, three-sentence, to-the-point critique that said my melody and instrument choices were great, but the mix was not balanced and not broadcast quality.

I took this to my audio production teacher who DOES know a thing or two about Chillwave and said that my drums were not loud enough, and needed to be varied slightly.

When I listened to the a las of Chillwave, I thought "I love this", and indeed, it wasn't hard to come up with the vibe, given that I love to chill most of the time (!) , but my drums needed work (always a weak point for me, a pianist) and I didn't know about the central place they need in the mix.

Once we did that, I softened the attacks on the pads, added some reverb.

The whole thing didn't take more than an hour -- and I just got a FORWARD for the same cue.

Moral of this story: read your returns! TAXI screeners give excellent advice!
