Re: Recording Equipment (Please Help)

I've used the Roland BR1600 and have it slaved to a BR864 and a FantomXa slaved to that. That's given me 24 tracks of audio, 16 tracks midi in the fantom's sequencer, and 2 drum machines on board , plus loops, bass, vocal harmony and pitch correction, tons of on-board effects eq and mastering tools. The BR900 is the successor to the 864, and retails for about $500, the BR1600 is $1195, and the little fantom is about $1000. The one reason I am a Roland user is I started with the 864 about 5 or 6 years ago and memorized how the software commands work, and by upgrading to the 1600 and the Fantom, I already had a knowledge base as to the logic in the Boss Roland software platform schemes. Kind of like why Telsak was better off upgrading in the Korg line since he was already familiar with the controls. My system is a lot of power for a decent price. You can hear my mix output on my taxi page. Keep in mind, that some of the mix quality is due to my own style of recording and the fact that I still have baby ears and what I consider very little knowledge about recording engineering. Hope that helps.ArkJack

Okay, so i've taken the advise and started doing some research. I ended up finding something that I might like. Tell me what you think. http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i- ... D.htmlEven though I don't really like Cubase LE (I own it) mainly because everytime I started recording it would quit half way through the song. I would have to start the recording over several times before getting 1 track done. I still know how to use it. It seems to me, that with this system you are able to record on the workstation and then upload it into cubase to mix and master my songs. I'm not sure if i'm incorrect about this, but if that's actually what it does, then it seems to be my best bet, as I can record in the workstation and then mix and master on something I already know. Thanks Again for all the comments and help all of you have given me!Solrax

I do it all the time.

That looks like a really nice quality unit and has a lot of the bells and whistles. I see it also has midi in out connectors, which means it can slave or be slave. The modern connectors and mic line option, sub mix, and 9 key drum pad are all features that surpass the Boss unit I have. I especially like the dedicated LED meters on each track. And the compatibility with Cubase is a unique feature. I'd say see if you can get an operator manual on line to look at before committing and make sure it can do everything you want now and for the near future. I see it also has a sampler, and DAW interface compatible. The only thing I'd check into and see if someone can add input here is that it seems to be limited to 16 bit 44.1KHz and PCM linear. I'm not sure if that limitation in the future will be an obstacle to your recording quality, but hopefully someone who knows for sure will chime in.ArkJack
