Rejected: Chorus sounds like a bridge

Post by joe44850 » Fri Feb 28, 2025 12:53 pm

Another one for the dead-letter pile. Chorus sounds too much like a bridge, according to the reviewer. It's fine, I have a blast writing and producing these things. But it's a shame I can't at least make enough to cover my plugins :D

I thought it was great, didn't hear it as a bridge at all. Super cool song, and intricate production. I'd be curious to hear a more stripped down production of it, it's pretty "thick" right now, a little hard to get to it's essence. And it could be that a more stripped down production has more potential for sync. Maybe? Would also be enlightening to see the listing and the full critique.

Nice work!

Hey Joe, that's a catchy little ditty! I kinda get why the screener said the chorus sounds like a bridge but I also think from a listener's position it's fine the way you did it. They always want sync songs to build, build, build, right?

I'd love to read their entire feedback if you feel like posting it.

Doug, I really appreciate that! I might take an approach similar to this.

As per Eeo suggestion, stripped that first part way down. Builds much better now. I really appreciate the feedback and have followed the helpful suggestions from both you and Doug.

Hi Joe
Good song! Keep in mind that the screener's screen according to the specific listing. Please paste the text of the listing (not a link).

Many times, songs that don't have killer choruses are fine for sync. But a listing may call for songs with very strong choruses, and in that case, this wouldn't be a fit.

Best,
Casey

Hi Joe,

It's a catchy song for sure, however I think screeners can be very picky with listings. While listeners may not consider the same things as the screener, it can be a learning experience. I think if you had fun writing the song and enjoy what you're doing, keep trying. I sent you a message.

Thanks, Casey, you input is valuable and I always appreciate it. I got some great feedback for how to improve the mix. The original post is from listing: https://www.taxi.com/listings/S241104LF
Original feedback was:
Unfortunately this is missing that more standout melodic contrast between sections as this chorus feels slightly more like a bridge.
I dig the vibe and tonal styling here however the chorus feels a bit detached from the rest of the arrangment.

I think I have addressed those two issues in my last uploaded version...at least I hope so :-)

Hey Joe,
I just listened to v7. I really like it. Catchy, good energy, good song, good vocal. The chorus works as a chorus for me. Keep going!
