Return, but great feedback from Screener #396

Post by Paulie » Wed Jan 27, 2016 9:08 pm

Another educational return. This is great feedback:
Beats, electronic elements working really well. Bass sounds great, beats are tight. The reason for the return is the string sounds/performance. Like many legato string patches there is a significant lag in the attack, making it sound out of sync with the groove, this is especially apparent at the section starting 0:39. Ideas are good, but with your current patches, try shifting to the left a bit, or sticking with pizzicato and sharp clean marcato string sounds. These will groove with the tight beat much better.
I listened to my track again and gosh darn it, I must have been in a rush because it was such an obvious mistake on my part. Gotta have those string attacks lined up properly. Every return is a learning opportunity! :)

yep.

the other thing I was thinking:

the attacks sound a bit like playing short notes with a legato sample - a little soft on the front and unrealistic for the figure.

Whereas using a marcato, or a spiccato, or a staccato sample would give the note a little more zing, as well as likely be better in time.

Paul,
Another option, if you want to keep the legato strings in the tune, is to add the short string patches that Andy suggested to your legato patches.
