Return for my Cure cover.

Post by shanegrla » Wed Sep 04, 2013 6:21 pm

Got a return on my Just Like Heaven cover for the recent "urgent rock covers from all eras" listing, U130903RK (on my Taxi page - for now).

Damn, I thought this one was a lock. Sure, I would've liked more time to get the drums and bass a little closer to the right sound, but I thought otherwise it was a sure thing. They even mentioned The Cure in the listing!

But it turned out to be my vocal performance:

"Hi Shane, Thanks for your submission. Your vocal is solid, but there are moments that don't quite feel on target with the original, delivery-wise. A looser feel would be a suggestion."

Well there's 12 hours of my life I could've spent on something else. :x

Thanks Andy. I really love that one too, so it wasn't exactly a nightmare having to do it, but it was a toss up between this one, The Outfield "Your Love" or maybe a Police tune (probably "Roxanne"). So now I can't help wondering if I should've spent my time trying one of those ones instead.

Oh well, I guess it's back to the ol' write, submit, forget. . .

Awesome, impressive job Shane!!!

I thought it was terrific!

(Love that song, too!)

Sometimes, you just never know....a different screener, a couple hours later....

You produce quality tracks, no doubt.

Wishing that your next one will get a nod...

Having just worked on a bunch in this genre and having seen the Cure listed somewhere when referring to the surf rock genre, I took a listen and would absolutely throw an instrumental version of this in the ring for the surf rock instrumental listing that came out today, without hesitation.

This listing:

CONTEMPORARY, BEACH-Y, INDIE ROCK INSTRUMENTALS in the stylistic ballpark of Best Coast, Real Estate, The Soft Pack, Jacuzzi Boys, etc., are needed by a great Film and TV Licensing company for a variety of TV placements. They need lo-fi Indie Rock Instrumentals that draw influence from the referenced bands, yet stay fresh, original, and optimistic. Your Instrumentals should have an easy, breezy approach that can transport the listener to the hipster-friendly West Coast! All tempos are welcome. Broadcast quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). You must own or control 100% of your master and composition. Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Wednesday, October 16, 2013. TAXI #S131016IR

Hmm, interesting idea. I wouldn't have thought of that. Thanks for the idea. I would have to change a lot of stuff around to make it not so recognizable as this tune, but I suppose it could just work if done correctly. 8-)
