Returned - 'Stylistically off target' - thoughts! CLOSED
Ok, so I am really shocked with these returns! The 'stylistically off target' box was checked off. If these tracks do not evoke Italy authentically, I ought to quit making music today!
So please enlighten me ....... anyone!
Thanks in advance for your time!
Cheers,
Vincent!

Your instrumentals will be used to convey location and atmosphere to viewers, so you must immediately set the tone with excellent use of authentic instruments. (Samples and programming MUST sound like the real deal!)You can submit Worldbeat tracks, but be sure you CLEARLY FEATURE the ETHNIC SOUNDS of a single, identifiable culture. (They're NOT looking for Electronica or New Age tracks with a few ethnic samples!) The company offers a 3-year exclusive term. Sorry I have no good idea .
Seems italian and authentic enough for me.
Song file mix up?
Sure s/he might prefer other syles of Italian music. What kind of music did they use as background for Berlusconi on TVi?
Can't be more italian than 'Gentilezza sei Tu', I could visualize the spaghetti blooming (:-)
Don't stop making music.

wow vincent, that sucks.
this stuff all seems really on point. Great stuff.
wonder if you could ask the head screener for a review of those returns and speculate what happened?

Hey Vincent...
Don't understand the return but it's always in the 'ear' of the beholder...
'Styiistically off target' ??
No way Pizon! I'm Italian and grew up listening to Italian music...
I would definitely get clarification...
All the Best...

Vincent
The only thing I could think of (along the lines of 'stylistically off target') was "...but be sure you CLEARLY FEATURE the ETHNIC SOUNDS of a single, identifiable culture..."
It it possible there are mixed elements that go away from pure Italian? (Definitely NOT my area of expertise)...
That's a guess, not at all a statement. No harm in dropping an email to headscreener _at_ taxi.com and asking for clarification.
Best of luck,
Casey

I have become disillusioned about what libraries what when it comes to certain types of ethnic European music,(not Taxi I should add) I was brought up in a certain culture, lived worked and played in bands from that culture and my stuff is ignored.I come to the conclusion that what people want is their perception of the music of whatever country, not the actual material as such,in my experience it is watered down, sugared up and bears little relation to the country of origin of the music.
Having said that I have made music supposedly from countries that I have hardly ever heard of never mind been to and the music has been accepted.
Oh well, got to go I am working on some Tamang music.
Mick.

Hi Tordenspyd, Andy, Billy Casey and Mike, thanks for taking the time to listen as well as offer your thoughts, I truly appreciate it!
Well the email to the head screener has been sent, and now I am awaiting a response!
As it stands I would only add that being of Italian descent myself, what I gave in this music is completely identifiable as Italian, absolutely no doubts in my mind regarding that!
Thanks again to all of you!
Cheers,
Vincent!

Well... if these songs are "stylistically off target"... then I was the person that posed for the Mona Lisa.
Seriously, I can see what Casey had to say being a bit more relevant then... off target, but even that is a stretch to me.
That first song, "All' Americana" that accordion or whatever it is, could benefit from a VERY small room reverb imho. To give it more "air" and liveliness in the mix. I think it would give it more "authenticity" from a realism stand point.
But all I said is NIT PICKIN the track to death... TRYING to find something wrong because the return is forcing me to believe something is wrong.... /shrug...
Good luck with it!!!

Vincent,
I hear you! I've been through this myself several times with some screeners. As you probably know,
I AM Greek, and my Greek music has been forwarded and returned by TAXI almost equally!
It's amazing how varied their perception of world music is! Some screeners loved my tracks some others
found them 'not too authentic'. Another screener wrote that my samples were not good, when in fact I
used a real bouzouki...Like I said 50-50 forward return ratio.
I'm sure that a lot of good music gets through but sometimes they surely miss some truly great stuff.
Being a TAXI world music screener is probably a tough gig because of all the styles involved. Having said that,
they could probably benefit from screeners who specialize in SPECIFIC cultures: one for Italian, one for Arabic etc. etc.
Just some thoughts!
