Right song for a listing?

Post by bobbyf » Tue Oct 25, 2011 4:23 pm

Hi,

Hope you're well.

I just got the e-mail with the following listing:

TOP MUSIC SUPERVISOR for a MAJOR HOLLYWOOD FILM STUDIO needs SONGS in the SPIRIT (NOT COVERS!) of:

PEARL JAM's "ALIVE"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGiTPgvKktM

SCREAMING TREES' "NEARLY LOST YOU"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwNdLjqaMLs

and NEIL YOUNG's "LIKE A HURRICANE".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Obfci1CIqq8

I have a song that I think could be close enough but it's a close call. If you are someone who has a good handle on whether a song is the right fit for Rock listings and would spare a few minutes to listen to the song and give me your thoughts I would greatly appreciate it.

It's called "Rain Down On Me." It can be listened to on the Audio tab of my Sonicbids page:

Thanks very much for your time and thoughts!

SIncerely,

Bobby

Hey Bobby, There is a little discussion in the Peer2Peer Section of this forum about this listing at the mo, have a look over there.

Your sound on this track felt like more studio polished / clean pop / mid 2000 stuff, than the loose live feel and edge to the listings references (?) .. to me

I'm glad Im not a screener though! So, just my thoughts/crit in relation to this listing and the referenced tracks only.

If you post this in the Peer2Peer section you should get more ears than here.

Best Wishes,
Sedge

PS this link took me directly to your music - http://www.sonicbids.com/epk/epk.aspx?e ... &skin_id=2 , your link just took me to your bio

Hi Bobby
I'm listening on laptop speakers...

Cool song! 8-) Very enjoyable!

My first reaction is it doesn't match the a la the acts listed. The opening reminded me of 70's BTO's "Let It Ride", BTW. I'm hearing retro but having trouble placing exactly where. It has cool elements of lots of stuff... Maybe more 80's?

:) Casey

Bobby,

Yeah, I don't think this matches the acts listed, exactly--Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees, at least, are heavier--but this couldn't be more spot-on Live, who were contemporary to both of those acts. It's a bit of a bridge between the heavier grunge and the more folky Neil Young. This is a 90s track through-and-through, so I'd say go for it. My only reservation is that the listing specifically asks for "BIG, TOWERING CHORUSES", which you don't really have here. I'd probably toss it in anyhow, though.

It reminds me a bit of Live.
Are they one of your influences?

Don't really think it's a fit for the listing.
Cool track though, like it a lot :)

Thanks to you all so much for your opinions and compliments and letting me know about Peer2Peer.! I really appreciate it.

I think Live is a subconscious influence. I grew-up musically in the 90s and listened to Throwing Copper countless times.

Very cool :)
I really liked Live back then too.
I also liked Secret Samadhi although not as commercially appealing as TC.
