Road Rally and TV/Film Opportunities

Post by clanmorgan » Tue Jul 22, 2008 5:46 am

Hey Gang,Im looking for feedback from others who have attended the Road Rally. My target placement is in TV/Film and Im wondering if there are sessions dedicated to TV/Film. Also does anyone have any experience with networking with TV/Film pro's (music libraries. music supervisors, etc... ).Ill be in Hollywood that week on other business and Im planning on attending the Road Rally. It would be nice to meet with other Taxi Members and share a drink or two.- Mic

I think TAXI will be posting the agenda and industry pros that will be attending well before the Rally so you can see what' s up.You will be able to meet some of the industry pros at different functions and some of them hang out at the bar and in the lobby and you can chat with them. There are also lunches that you can buy tickets for that will have industry mentors circulating from table to table. Not all are film/TV but I've learned a lot even from those that are not.Don't underestimate your fellow members, I landed a pretty nice gig by giving my demo to one 2 years ago. You never know who might be that key connection!!Looking forward to meeting you!!Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

The number of CDs just depends on who you want to give them to. If you are using the CDs to give to industry people and a few taxi members, bring about a dozen with you. You can squeak by on a 1/2 dozen if luggage space is that tight and then make copies, if needed, while there. If disc makers has the booth for it again this year, you can make copies. If not, you can likely buy some CDs nearby and make some copies using someone's laptop. From my limited experience (2 rallies): Figure you will have at least 1 or 2 for your "one-on-one" sessions with a film / tv person, have at least 1 or 2 with you for each mentor lunch you go to, if any. Have a few for listening panels (which you may get back after the panel) and then for other contacts that you make while there. It seems to me that I didn't feel the need to give them out to as many people as I became more focused on what I wanted to accomplish at the rally. I saw people handing out CDs to anyone who would take one as well - this I wouldn't advise, unless you just have a burning desire to do so. I came home with SO many discs from people the first year that last year I started just putting the songs into my itunes and gave the discs back to the artist whenever possible. HTH and I look forward to meeting you at the rally!
