Rock Songs of All Styles

Post by elser » Mon May 04, 2009 3:40 pm

Hello Peers, I wrote this about 6 months ago for a different listing. I posted it then but didn't get much feedback on it. Since then I've added live horns, backing vox, and done a lot of drum editing. And of course a new mix. I'd just like to see if anyone hears any 'holes'. It's already been submitted but I can always upload it again with the edit button.Thankshttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=2324 ... m=trueROCK SONGS OF ALL STYLES are sought by a Los Angeles-based music publisher who has signed dozens of TAXI songs/writers and has been successful in securing film and television placements. HE is looking specifically for Rock songs that have a contemporary feel but with influences ranging all the way from classic to grunge. Target artists for reference include Aerosmith, Hinder, Poison, Pretenders, U2, Daughtry, The Who, Audioslave, Heart, The Killers and INXS. Performances must be excellent and recordings need to be Broadcast Quality - great home recordings should be just fine.

Woops, here's the lyrics. Took A Shine To You She's kinda skinny but she's got big feetHer nails are strong but her eyes are weakIt's just as well that she can't see meShe doesn't know that she's datin' a geekI met her walkin' through the park one dayShe was lost, I had ta show her the wayShe don't know it but I'm here to stayIf she'd just give me a chance I'd like to say(Chorus)I took a shine to youWe're gonna make it through yaThere's just some things you know are trueI took a shine to youShe screams and hollers like a bird of preyShe got those nails tries ta tear me ta shredsI fend her off, try ta keep my headAfter it's over try ta get her in bedThe walls are thin the neighbors don't complainSometimes it feels like we're goin' insaneShe's a first rate lover with a bad migraineNevertheless I don't complain(Chorus) Well I got me a master planI'll try to get her on an airplaneWe'll fly to Vegas, buy some cheap ringsWhen I get her there I'll say one thingI took a shine to you

Great sound here. On headphones, it sounded just a little muddy in the low end. I think the horns could be a little wider and brighter in the mix. During the bridge, I'd think about getting rid of the instrument that's doubling the vocal, maybe let the voice shine a little more there. Yeah, super guitar solo. It's be really cool to add some bluesy female backing vocals, but that's gravy. Congrats on this.Vince

Hi ElserI'm listening on the laptop so I can't say anything about sound quality and only had a few minutes- so not much detail. Very good song! I hear Huey Lewis and Bob Segar... I know this listing is from the past but "He is looking specifically for Rock songs that have a contemporary feel but with influences ranging all the way from classic to grunge" would probably make this a non-fit there, since it's terrific retro but doesn't have the contemporary feel. (That description above is a tough nut to crack)...IMHO the best fit would be for an 80's retro/replacement track listing.I'll try to come back and listen with headphones or better speakers.Nice,Casey

Robert Palmer!!!Thats what I hear which is very cool.IMO the horns slightly overpower the mix but I really like the arrangement. Im with Vince about the instrument in the bridge. Maybe play those notes an octave higher with some verb to place them in the background. A mild chorus effect would spread the horns a little more.Overall excellent track, I love this style. Matt

Thanks for the input everybody. Some really good suggestions.I'm definitely going widen the horns since there's a clear consensus. I'll also try and take the melody guitar out of the bridge, though the lead singer was the one who really liked it and suggested it.And Casey, ya, that's one of those things I can't wrap my head around, what is classic rock with a contemporary feel? Oh well it's already submitted, I'm just fixing it using the edit button on the submissions page.Actually I was thinking it's a little Aerosmithonian, like 'Dude Looks Like A Lady' era.Elser
