Same inquiry party? <dispatch listing>

Post by wings » Wed Nov 25, 2009 4:44 am

I'm wondering if this dispatch listing:Quote:SERIOUS INSTRUMENTAL/ORCHESTRAL COMPOSERS needed by a Leading International Music Production Company representing composers of film, television, commercials, and video games. They are not looking to license tracks for this particular request, but hoping to find talented and versatile film/TV composers to sign and represent. They are interested in hearing orchestral/cinematic type instrumentals that display your musical talents and recording abilities. They prefer working with composers who have some film/TV credits (although not required to be considered), so please mention credits in your bio if you have any. Broadcast quality needed (excellent home recordings are okay). Please submit two to three instrumentals online or per CD, include bio. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than 4:00pm (PST) on Monday, November 30, 2009. TAXI #D091130TVIs the same as this listing a while ago:Quote:Y090817INSERIOUS INSTRUMENTAL COMPOSERS NEEDED by a Music Producer who is creating a new independent music library and already has several TAXI composers under his roof. He is looking for composers IN ALL GENRES and said no stone will be left unturned in that respect. Although he is the provider of music for a huge daytime television talk show, he wants to make it clear that the composers he is looking to sign to the library will focus on other projects he is working on and will not compete with the composers working on the talk show. You must be able to work as a team player, take direction and deliver on time. ÊHe needs someone who uses high quality samples and has state-of-the-art equipment. ÊHe's definitely looking for a "pro" and not someone who works during the day, as he'll need you to be available for quick turnaround assignments and same day edits when necessary. He'd like someone with experience with syncing to tape. His deal offer is non-exclusive (except with other libraries) and you keep 100% of the writer's share. ÊAll submissions need to be Broadcast Quality. ÊPlease submit two to three instrumentals online or per CD, include Bio. ÊAll submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, August 17, 2009. TAXI #Y090817INBecause I got burned with all my submissions. I'm wondering if it's worth submitting to the dispatch. The comments that I received regarding #y090817in was enough to make me really gun shy regarding such listings.

I'd give TAXI a call about that listing and ask them if it's the same company.

I'm 99.9% certain that it's not the same company but I'd give TAXI a call and ask them.- Big Blue

I don't have any inside info, but like BBB, I'm positive that this isn't the same listing party. One is a library, the other is looking for composers to sign and represent to the industry for custom composing gigs (like games).

I'll also throw my speculation hat into the ring and say I'm 99.9999% positive that this is a different listing party.

Agreed, but interestingly there are a bunch of new regular (non-Dispatch) instrumental listings that look even more like they're the same co. as the Dispatch listing in question here. They all have the same line: "They are not looking to license tracks for this particular request, but hoping to find talented composers to sign and represent."For example:NEW LISTING -- FUN/WHIMSICAL INSTRUMENTAL COMPOSERS needed by a Leading International Music Production Company representing composers of Film, Television, Commercials, and Video Games. They are not looking to license tracks for this particular request, but hoping to find talented composers to sign and represent. They would like to hear fun/whimsical (but not too quirky) instrumentals that display your musical talents and recording abilities. They prefer working with composers who have some film/TV credits (although not required to be considered), so please mention credits in your bio if you have any. Broadcast quality needed (excellent home recordings are okay). Please submit two to three instrumentals online or per CD, include bio. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, December 21, 2009. TAXI # Y091221FN and NEW LISTING -- SERIOUS FILM/TRAILER MUSIC COMPOSERS needed by a Leading International Music Production Company representing composers of Film, Television, Commercials, and Video Games. They are not looking to license tracks for this particular request, but hoping to find talented trailer music composers to sign and represent. They would like to hear cinematic/prolific/apocalyptic/epic type orchestral instrumentals that display your musical talents and recording abilities. They prefer working with composers who have some film/TV credits (although not required to be considered), so please mention credits in your bio if you have any. Broadcast quality needed (excellent home recordings are okay). Please submit two to three instrumentals online or per CD, include bio. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Thursday, December 31, 2009. TAXI # Y091231IN andNEW LISTING -- JINGLE/THEME INSTRUMENTAL COMPOSERS ...

I happen to know, without question, that these two companies have nothing to do with the other. They are NOT the same company. Trust me. The old listing is from a music library. This new one isn't a library. I happen to know without question they are not the same company. However, the bar will be much higher for the new one that mentions video game composers. Much higher. If you're worried, I highly suggest getting a custom critique for a tune or two beforehand - money REALLY well spent. You get a lot more info about where you and the song are at. Mention the listing you hope to submit to and have the screener use the custom critique as a "mock submittal". I have had a lot of sucess as a TAXI personiod and I have gotten custom critiques before. They work and you don't have to wait for that special listing to pop up before you get feedback.cbPS - I am posting this out here even though the Dispatch listing is over because that same "video game composer..." company has posting a gazzillion listings (OK, well... 8-ish?) in the current TAXI do-hickey.cbPPS-- you wrote: The comments that I received regarding #y090817in was enough to make me really gun shy regarding such listings.Don't get intimitated - just learn. NOTHING wrong with being a rookie at something. Watch. Learn. Try. Fail. Try again. Learn. Suceed.Imagine an 8 year old Roger Federer playing against a seasoned tennis pro. He would loose, but he would learn. As long as he kept playing people better than him, eventually he wouldn't lose anymore.
