Sample Based Hip Hop Forward

Post by TerrellBurt » Mon Dec 18, 2017 7:54 pm

Wednesday at midnight: Came across a unique listing with a tight deadline but still wanted to give it a shot. Wrote the first verse.

Thursday evening after work: Started writing the second verse via voice text and finished it up when I got home.

Thursday at midnight: Laid vocals.

"Don't Wanna Be Right" is the end result and it got forwarded for the below listing! Even if nothing happens, I'm glad that I'm able to meet tight deadlines if necessary. You can hear it at https://soundcloud.com/tlburt17/dont-wanna-be-right

ANTHEMIC, SAMPLE-Based HIP-HOP SONGS with Male Vocals are U-R-G-E-N-T-L-Y needed for a NON-Exclusive, $7,000, Direct-to-Music Supervisor Montage Placement in a Comedy Feature Film. They’re searching for energetic, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Songs that would fall within the general stylistic ballpark of the following references (but not limited to):

WARNING: Some of the following references have graphic and explicit lyrics. Listener discretion is advised.

“100” by The Game ft. Drake

“Otis” by JAY Z, Kanye West ft. Otis Redding

“The Devil is A Lie” by Rick Ross ft. Jay Z

NOTE: We RARELY, if ever run listings where you can submit unauthorized samples of other artists or music. However, for this request, they specifically want Songs with sample based production AND they will pay for the sample clearance! So start digging through those crates of records and get to sampling! Here’s a link to some sample ideas that our client gave us, but you don’t have to limit yourself to just those Songs.

Give them full-length Songs that sound like a true Hip-Hop record, and has an OLD SCHOOL meets NEW SCHOOL style, sound, and vibe. Ideally, they would love it if your music production sampled a 70’s song. That said, don’t sweat it if you’ve got a great a sample that sounds like the style of that era. Please do NOT add sound effects like pops, scratches, or clicks to your songs or production.

No specific lyric themes were requested, so anything that sounds like it’s what you’d normally hear in the Hip-Hop genre could potentially work. Please avoid using lyrics with profanity or band names. Please do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

The estimated license fee will be between $5,000 - $7,000, depending on the ultimate placement, and the sample clearance fee. This is a Non-Exclusive, Direct-to-Music Supervisor placement, so you’ll keep 100% ownership of your Copyright and Master Recording, plus you’ll also get 100% of the Master License Fee and any applicable performance royalties. You must own or control your Copyright and Master Recording to pitch for this opportunity. Please submit as many Songs you’d like online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - Short Critiques only. Submissions must be received no later than 12:00PM NOON (PST), on FRIDAY, December 15th, 2017. TAXI #U171215AS

Wow, Terrell - for being on a 'slam-dunk' deadline, you sure got a fine, tight mix right there; well done, and congrats!
I think you just raised the bar another notch, Amigo.
