SEX! DRUGS! VIOLENCE!

Post by billg » Mon Feb 02, 2009 12:43 pm

My attempt at a Tarantino movie in song form. It has sex, drugs, and graphic violence and will never be any good for anything . . . another contender for my cd full of fillers. It's looking like it's going to be a triple boxed set the way I'm going-This is called "That's The Way To Do It" and i would be surprised if there isn't somebody who would find the song offensive. This is a first mix but I don't think hear anything I should change except one flat vocal near the end. (one place that's worse than my normal flat vocals http://www.billgaunce.com/song/109

Ok Bill.My favorite cut from you yet!! How about some backing vocals on the "thats the way" parts of the chorus. (backing vox) "thats the way" in harmony. (lead vox) "thats the way to do it" (lead and backing vox unison) uh huh! Great song. My wife likes it too!M~

hey bill--the entry bass, and drums sound damn good to me.good hooky stuff, kinda dylan-esque (that monkey man tune from "blood on the tracks" comes to mind,) i dig the cadence, the harp, this is very very r&b to me for the right listing--you crack me up with the triple boxed set--hell, this is too good for that one man, sorry, i disagree--and hell, you ought to get allot of comments with an intro post like sex, drug, violence--got me to listen sooner than nornal....this is quality--damn that harp is splendid, bass great....ok, said that...great story line...the best,wh

thanks! Matt I was thinking about some backups but I got a little afraid of amking it sound to "up" if I added harmonies. I like the idea though & I might give it a shot.As I'm listening now after about a hr. break I think the mix is not bright enough. I didn't want it to be too bright, wanted it a little dark like the song but I think it's almost "muddy" as it stands now. My ears are really messed up though because i have a sinus thing going on . . .probably shouldn't be singing or mixing!

Hey Bill, Steve here. You might remember me, and if you don't, who cares. We have a couple mutual good friends. I redid a profile a ways back, but never used it til now. This song is great Bill, you are one of the best writers on this forum for sure. Mix sounds good to me, snare's bright (sounds like ezdrummer?), tambourine rattles clear and clean, maybe a slight (slight!) touch of lows on the bass, which is killer BTW! Love the acoustic sound to....very cool! It sounds just like how a Tarantino flick would pan out! If you think it needs highs, don't go too much, coz it's pretty cool as is! Just wanted to say I like it, and keep writing Bill, you just getbetter all the time man! Best of luck whatever you do with it!Cheers!Steve
Worse, how can it be worse...Jehova Jehova Jehova

Yeah I second steve. The mix was pretty good to me bu t I have the same sinus/ear stoppage BS going too.I really dig this man. M~p.s Im thinking lower harmonies for backups. Not supremes like but more Manhattans. Keep it dark.Wait!!!!!Blues Bros style backups?? Hell IDK. Me and the Turkey been talkin tonight!M~

Bill, That song is frickin awesome! I absolutely loved it. Wow. I might buy it off your site if it's forsale. I really dug the groove you established right from the beginning. Drums/bass sounded good to me. The harmonica might be a little hot, but no real nits here man. Obviously I'm not a production guru. I'm more about the song. And let me tell you I'm a fan. You'd better put that one on an album Andy
