Sharing thoughts - to stay or to go?

A lot of this is also related to expectations. When I joined TAXI, I read through the forums thoroughly and quickly found out that most people use a five-year horizon as a long-term plan. Even though that's still a long way off for me, I adopted the same timeperiod based on the experiences of more veteran members. In the meantime, TAXI seems like a great place to work on those ambitions for me.

I agree with Paul. For me it has a lot to do with managing my own expectations and trying to be both realistic and optimistic. I know there are better mixing engineers than myself, better mastering engineers, better guitar players etc. but I still believe that we all have a truly unique combination of skills and talents. And, I think that very 'package' (if we work hard to improve it) will allow us to submit quality material against short deadlines. Let us face it the Rolling Stones would not submit their music to a 250 USD rock instrumental listing and Dave Pensado would not mix it

Last but not least, I tell myself everyday that I enjoy making music and I definitely want to take it to the next level. And, that is why I joined Taxi in the first place

I totally understand the disillusionment your partner is experiencing. It happens to lots of people for lots of different reasons. What jumps out to me is that he may be too attached to his songs and expect too much, too quickly. And then, when you start re-submitting songs to listings that might not be an exact fit, you make the problem worse for yourself. Forwards are just one piece of the puzzle. Success at Taxi is purely a NUMBERS game. And even when you have a lot of forwards, it doesn't mean a thing. Speaking form personal experience I have had about 150 forwards in my almost two years with Taxi now. Only two of them led me into library relationships. The other libraries I am writing for are directly because of face to face meetings at the Rally, OR collaborations with other Taxi members.

Does your partner ever collaborate? I suggest that he post some of his music in the collaboration section of the forum and let it be known that he is looking to work with other Taxi members. By sharing his music people will hear his style and quality and he could find a match. Another option is to have him listen to forwards from other Taxi members that are in his stylistic wheelhouse and then directly message them to see if they would be interested in collaborating. 2016 Was a great collaboration year for me, it helped me get into three libraries I did not get into on my own.

And lastly, the Taxi mantra is "Write, Submit, Forget, Repeat." FORGET is probably the hardest one, especially when you get attached to songs. But remember, they are songs, not puppies or babies. Let them go...
