So how's the wifi at the Westin? Worth the extra charge?

Post by bejeeber » Tue Oct 22, 2013 8:13 pm

I'm trying to decide whether I really REALLY need to have 3G on a refurb iPad I may be purchasing real soon (I suppose that's something that could be addressed in a whole seperate topic), but anyhoo this brings me to the question of how's the wifi at the Road Rally Westin? (I'm thinking that some of ya probably tried out the wifi there at the Westin last year)

I was at some Vegas hotels where they charged aplenty for wifi and it was just disappointingly LOUSY - SLOW - BARELY EVEN THERE. Not sure if this is currently true for hotels in general.......?

Thanks. 8-)

Other than being expensive, the wifi has worked fine for me. But if I recall correctly, it only works in certain areas of the hotel. The people at the front desk will explain the cost and the coverage.

I finally bit the bullet and got a smart phone, so if Virgin Mobile doesn't fail me, this will be the first year I won't need to depend on the Westin for Internet access. (Doing the math, I calculate that the cost of the phone will pay for itself in less than 7 years!)

My experience - it's not the best, not the worst. Not a lot of coverage in the main Ball Room as I remember, but works in the lobby and a lot of the smaller rooms.

hth

And if I recall (um.. and I might not??) I paid around 40 smacks last year for net hookup in my room for the duration of my stay (thrs-sun nights).
...or...
Maybe that was somewhere else... :geek:

Thanks fellers - I ended up finding a used iPad that came with the 3G/cellular, so I just may see if I can skip trying the wifi, since as Bent has found, those charges can add up quick for partial hotel coverage!

It costs around $12/day. It's always worked well for me in my room and the lobby, no complaints other than I resent them charging for it when so many cheap hotels give it to you for nothing. But unfortunately, it seems the nicer the hotel, the more likely they'll charge for Wi-Fi.

I'm a laptop jockey so even though I have a new iPhone, I'll probably pay for the Wi-Fi anyway. I just have to lay off the Famous Amos cookies!

If you're on verizon, they're running a special on their MiFi. Used to be $250 for the box, I got it last week for $20 plus the addition of the data to my cell phone plan.
