Software for creating music videos
Has anyone here ever created a music video for some of their songs? I'd like to start featuring some of my songs on You Tube. I've called a local university to see if their film department would do something like this.....maybe get some students to work on it. But does anyone know of some software that will do the trick? I've learned to use Band In the Box....is there a software that will create music videos too?I'll add that what I mean by music video software is just a package that contains already filmed images of general pictures you can use, and then insert the music in the background.

Two questions:1) What platform are you on? Mac or PC?2) What kind of camera are you using to capture. * There are no specific software for music videos. What you want is a NLE (non-linear Editing) program. They exist for both Macs and PCs, but usually PC software require additional cards like a Matrox to playback in real-time. YMMV. One thing that you will want to do learn to do is syncing your video with the audio using markers similar to those in DAW software.* On the Mac, there's no contest: Final Cut Pro and its little brother iMovie (free with every mac). Avoid anything Avid, as they always try to bump you up to their more expensive stuff. * On The PC, I prefer Adobe Premiere, but haven't used it in 6 years (the software box is gathering dust on my shelf). Adobe also have an entry-level offering called Premiere Express* For royaty-free stock footage (that's the technical term), I believe that IStockPhoto is a good place to start. Also, you can google stock footage for 3rd party libraries. There are also interesting plug-ins for transition and special effects that are great for music videos.Video editing is probably one of the most CPU intensive application. If you are new to this, the best thing to do is check out a few free tutorials on the software of your choice, then going to Lynda.Com for specific subjects. Vermeer (the friendly techno geek)

Vermeer (the friendly techno geek)Wow, thanks, Vermeer! I'm on PC. And I don't even have a camera yet. I am very technically challenged. You've given me a lot of good information to start with here.....I didn't even know where to begin with music videos....I'm gonna peruse all these links you've given me......this will help me a lot.

I like the way you inserted those sayings too... it gave it a very humorous effect. Very creative stuff....looks like you're a visual type person too. The colors and the way you use them are cool.....I like the rainbows flowing out of the cowboy's mouths. I'd put that on You Tube if I were you, you'd get even more exposure.

I'm actually a trained painter. I can knock you us a Caravaggio for a decent price if you like.In the past I was a gallery owner, performance artist and installation artist....then it all went horribly wrong......I had the video featured on a music video website last year, which was pretty cool, I don't know why I haven't put it on Youtube yet....I'll look into it though. Thanks again.

I think I'm more a paper-and-string kind of film maker.

Re: Software for creating music videos
Windows Movie Maker is included on the PC and very basic, but it's a great place to start. 1 line of video/audio and 1 line to put music, plus a number of transitions & title capabilities. While we're sharing here's a simple one I did with my daughter for a song she wrote http://youtube.com/watch?v=dbptnnj2JpA
