Re: Some Useful Info Of General Interest...
Thanks Mojo,
Fun band, cool songs, great sound.
I play sax - baritone, tenor and alto - it is very hard to sing while doing so. I always liked backing a good vocalist though. Don't need no guitars with keyboard, drum, bass and horn. I played with Corny Bumpus when he was playing organ before he joined up as a sax man with the Doobies.
First time I heard good soul and R&B band was when he had Corny and the Corvettes playing the high schools in the area. There were no guitars. Good vocals and steps.

For me it was Big Twist & The Mellow Fellows. They weren't the first great soul band I'd seen, but they were by far the best. Twist himself was in the hospital that night from his first heart attack; his mentor, a gentleman in his sixties, sang with the band. To this day, it is the most raucous, emotional, spiritual R&B show I have ever seen. Here's a clip of their signature tune:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWuLaWI0 ... re=related
The drummer in the above clip is the guy that taught me to stick drag; (well, I learned watching him, at least) one night when I was roadie-ing at the Boiler Room, (this was long after Big Twist passed) I was standing by the stage, and in the middle of a long jam, Merle looked up at me and said, "Take my chair." He had to say it twice, I was so stunned. He stood up and kept a pattern going on his ride cymbal while I slid over and took the other stick, and I finished the tune while he took a much-needed potty break. I'm pretty sure he didn't even know I played drums, at the time. (maybe he'd seen me air-drumming and thought I knew something) The first time I hit his snare, I nearly lost the drumstick, it was so tight; don't know how I got through it. If I'd known at the time he'd been Twist's drummer, I'd have wet myself.

There's a lot to be said for warm markets, and your Facebook buddies and blogger friends are probably your warmest, but marketing to friends and friends of friends can be a trickier business than marketing to strangers, so it pays to know a little about this: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/02/15 ... etiquette/
Y'all that know me know I've broken every one of these rules at one time or another, but I don't do it without a real good reason.
