Re: Someone Please tell me what COMPELLING means!!
Casey, here are the listings.
Sent "Grid Iron Frenzy" for this one......
ENERGETIC SPORTS INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a fast-growing NON-Exclusive Music Licensing Company. They’re looking for high-energy, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Cues that could work well in a wide range of Sports TV shows. Please listen to the references below to get an idea of the stylistic range they’re searching in: “All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGXzlRoNtHU “Can't Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zNSgSzhBfM “Fight Song” by Marilyn Manson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GFI6Rf-IkI Although the references above have vocals, this pitch is for instrumentals only. Please submit emotionally charged Instrumental Cues that sound like they would be played during Sports-related content such as; weekly highlight reels, on-air promos, and sports-related TV commercials. Your Cues can range from Heavy Metal Rock Cues to Hip Hop to EDM-based material etc. The door is pretty much wide open for this pitch, as long as your Cue delivers that high-energy vibe they’re looking for. Be sure to add and subtract instruments as your Cue progresses to add dynamics and forward momentum to your Cues. Your submissions should be a minimum of 1:30 in length. Easy edit points and non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Please do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). NOTE: Typically, this Music Library has gotten $300 sync fees for instrumental placements for this type of music. This company offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 split. You'll get 100% of the Writer's share. The Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher’s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit for this pitch. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a yes/no basis with no full critiques, and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Friday, January 27th, 2017. TAXI #Y170127SI
And "Nail Biter" "On Pins and Needles" "Search Warrant" for this one......
FUTURISTIC, TENSION-Based INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a really large media company for placements in several projects, including hit cable TV shows, other shows on their own network, and online media. This rapidly growing industry giant is building its own Exclusive, In-House Music Library and will pay an initial buyout fee of $250 for 100% of the Composition and Master rights. On top of the per track fee, you will also keep 100% of the Writer’s share of the publishing and make applicable performance income. Please take a listen to the references the client gave us to get an idea of the range of styles that could work for this pitch: “Stranger Things Main Theme” by Survive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpHNlx0pPIU “Mr. Robot Main Theme” by Mac Quayle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfqlbHadp40 “Blindspot Theme” by Blake Neely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2hDqHtVfSA Please submit well-crafted Instrumental Cues that have current-sounding, electronic and orchestral elements, and deliver a feeling of expectancy and anticipation. Craft your Cue around a simple melodic theme that’s engaging and suspenseful, while gradually adding electronic elements to create space, dynamics, and interest as your Cue progresses. Having dark, ambient, futuristic synth pads will work best for creating that ominous, moody vibe they’re after. Don’t throw the kitchen sink at this. Keep your Cues simple and remember that mood is king, and sticking with one mood and motif from top to bottom will make them love you. All submissions should be at least 2:00 minutes in length and Non-Faded endings. Do NOT copy or rip off the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This new, Exclusive, In-House Library will pay an initial buyout fee of $250 for 100% of the Composition and Master rights. On top of the per track fee, you will also keep 100% of the Writer’s share of the publishing and make applicable performance income. This Library offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so the music you submit for this pitch CANNOT be signed with any other publishers or catalogs. Please submit 1-3 Instrumental Cues Online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a yes/no basis and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Sunday, January 22nd, 2017. TAXI # Y170122FT

Re: Someone Please tell me what COMPELLING means!!
Hi Mike
Grid Iron Frenzy.... "as long as your Cue delivers that high-energy vibe they’re looking for. Be sure to add and subtract instruments as your Cue progresses to add dynamics and forward momentum to your Cues"... Nice rocking cue
and it would be good for the right situation. Here I think it's just not high energy enough. Check out the sound on that Marilyn Manson ref track for example.
Nail Biter.... The listing says "Craft your Cue around a simple melodic theme that’s engaging and suspenseful..." I'm not hearing anything melodic. It also asks for layering in of more electronic elements. This never really takes off, just kind of lies there. That's not meant to be insulting, just trying to describe what's missing.
Overall, if you read all the details of the listing carefully while listening, you'll see that it doesn't meet the descriptive words very well. However, for the right situation, it's a usable cue.
It comes down to reading every word of the listing VERY carefully and doing A/B listens against the reference tracks. Again, good cues and for a general library submission to the right library, might get picked up. But for Taxi listings, you have to focus carefully on the often narrow area the listing is requesting.
HTH!

Hi Casey,
Thanks for the detailed input. I hear what you are saying and am not insulted at all. Its real hard for me sometimes to get the narrowness of the listing down. I have a hard time not over doing it and then when I dont over do it, I under do it. Im working on it day by day, just a little thick headed I think. I'll take any advice you have to offer at any time.
