I don't think I could produce that quickly. I think I'd want to have a sizable library of stuff ready to go.

Dispatch is a good reflection of the realities in film and tv.Oftentimes you have to deliver something within 24-48 hours.......and then wait three months to see if it gets used.

Re: Sometimes, DISPATCH isn't worth it...
I tried the "dispatch challenge" this weekend for the "dog song" listing and was not forwarded. But....it forced me to write a new song that I can ultimately use for a kid's album I'm working on. Without the dispatch listing, I wouldn't have written it. Even if I'm never forwarded for a dispatch listing, at least I'm paying for "motivation." But then again, I consider just the basic Taxi membership fee a "motivational" expense Larry

Re: Sometimes, DISPATCH isn't worth it...
It was nine or ten months into my first year of Taxi before I signed up for dispatch, but I'm glad I did. I've only had a couple of forwards on dispatch listings, but the songs I written for them are good enough to revise and add to my overall catalog. As the veterans here have said, just because it doesn't work for a specific listing doesn't mean it won't work for something in the future. And there is something motivational to me about a deadline, so it gets me moving at least.I'm starting to realize that many people join Taxi after completing an album, only to realize that the album they created is just a starting point, and future success will depend on subsequent work in addition to what has already been created.

Let's say a person only has 1 song... Joining DISPATCH just gives the person MORE listings to submit to is all. The person doesn't have to write anything new... just sit back and wait for a 'dispatch' listing to come in that fits that 1 song... then submit. That's 1 more submit that you wouldn't have otherwise. And if it's the cost of 'dispatch' that's the problem... I would assume if the song is good... and gets licensed... it could pay for the 'dispatch' fee and then some. Of course having 'more' music... and the ability to write new music for the 'dispatch' listings would be even better... but not necessary. With 'dispatch' you get more listings to submit your music to... more chances to get your music licensed. Am I right? This is how I look at it. I am a new member here at Taxi... I do not use the 'dispatch' service yet.

I'd been a member for 1 year & 1/2 and I joined dispatch when I was at the end of the 1st year .. There aren't a ton of dispatch listings for my type of music.. Jazz/Blues/World and instrumentals but it cost me like $10 for the last 2 weeks or so, so I went for it...For my 1st dispatch I submitted my version of the Beatles cover " Oh ! Darling "... Thinking I didn't have a chance since it was a " high bar " listing...But it was forwarded for a Cable TV show...No news yet though..But I think you gotta go with your gut sometimes.I think if you have access to a recording studio and have a fairly decent catalogue...I only have about 60 originals recorded...or if you can use this to push yourself to write/create in a hurry...And can afford it...It's a win/win situation.MG

Re: Sometimes, DISPATCH isn't worth it...
That's all I was really saying, guys.I have 8 songs demo-ed. For the 8 months I was on the Dispatch list, I got ONE listing that fit one of my tunes. For someone like me who does NOT have access to any regular studio time, that wasn't financially worth it.And I have no trouble admitting that I'd feel differently, most certainly, if the song had been picked up and placed.Granted, it DID get forwarded; but the VAST majority of Dispatch listings are looking for music RIGHT NOW, and the contracts usually don't take four months to come down the pike. (So, I'm presuming it didn't get placed, since I never heard anything back.)But trust me, if I had a home studio (HELL, if I had a MAC with Garage Band), I'd be more than eager to try some guerilla writing for Dispatch listings, as I have some proof from my Nashville days (110 years ago) that I'm pretty good in crunch-time situations.Soon. Believe me. Soon.Ted
