Hey, Elser.....pretty good list there.....I definitely think "Shameless" could fall into that category.....it's okay about separate posts, I do a lot of them. Dean and vhee....I can't think of anything much after 2000 that's a hit without a killer hook....maybe "Beautiful" as Elsner pointed out. LOL, I don't listen to much after 1993 either (well, except for country, 'coz I write it)....there are probably good songs without hooks out there, but you have to get away from mainstream radio to hear themCase, you have a good point about songs being 'hooky' whether there is a 'hook' (meaning that repetition of words that grabs the listener) in the chorus or not.I always bring up the song "Taxi" because I think it's one of the greatest storytelling songs ever written, but it really doesn't have any discernable(sp?) hook as far as I'm concerned, and it's got this crazy bridge which doesn't even seem to fit anywhere, but still it works on so many levels. It's just a great song......Harry Chapin was such a master story teller. I think when that song first came out, (this is how OLD I am, hehe) people in the music biz were talking about how different that song was.....how it was genius....I don't know about that, but it was written in a rather different structure. As I said before though, I don't think a song like Taxi would fly today in commercial radio formats today.

Beautiful Disaster, currently done by Kelly Clarkson. It's a kinda hooky two-word play on words but it doesn't blow me outta the water. The lyrics and her rendition do, though.

I'll put on some of those headphones and take a listen to a sample. This thread is a real brain teaser....it's sure hard to think of songs without killer hooks.Anyawy, hope you have a great day! I am going out to play in the sunshine.
