Look elsewhere for inspiration, as in literature, in poetry, in plays, in movies, in the life section of the newspaper. How does one practice serenity? Start by waking up early and writing morning pages... 3 pages, stream of consciousness, without stopping.Throughout the day, when ever you think of it, put your attention on your breath, and feel it as it fills your lungs, and feel it as it releases. Give thanks for the life that comes with each breath. As you go about your daily business... be present and conscious with yourself. Look at the things around you with wonder, especially the natural things, like flowers and trees, earth and sky.Practice these moments of quiet stillness with yourself... and recognize that when many people talk, they are just verbalizing the chatter/clatter of their mind-speak and ego-centered living... not revealing the soul within. Let go of judgment and accept that that is where they are on their journey. Focus on your own path. Thanks, honey. You're peaceful heart and spirit always come to me when I need them the most.FWIW, in two days it will be my 3rd anniversary of writing morning pages, and in all this time, I MAY have only missed 10 mornings. They have saved my sanity and helped me to reclaim my creativity in a BIG way. I can't imagine EVER giving them up.One of the reasons I moved back to Taos was because of the serenity and majesty of the natural surroundings here. I knew they would be a source of peace for me when I was having trouble finding any in my own day to day.And I can promise you (no matter HOW pissed off my original posting sounded) that I am SO grateful for the beauty that greets me on a daily basis. Can you imagine, with the tense attitude I started this thread with, what kind of shape I'd be in without it? A VERY scary thought.Thank you, again, so much for your temperance and your grace.Ted

I believe the bible says something about forgiving seven times seven on a daily basis. Not that I'm an overly religious person, but that always helps me when dealing with difficult folks. Plus, I realize that I can be just as annoying to the people who are annoying me. When it comes to getting to know people, I think it's about finding the good in them......maybe it's about finding a diamond in a sh*t nugget, if you know what I mean. We just need to polish it a bit more, but we got to get through the crap first.

Re: (SORT OF a joke...) But according to the Lubo
Julia Cameron was a somewhat successful but frustrated Hollywood screenwriter who came to Taos, NM (this breathtakingly beautiful little mountain town where I live) to get away from her frustration.Early one morning, she was staring out a window of the little casita she had rented at Taos Mountain and just started writing...total stream of consciousness. She felt so cleansed by it that she did it again the following morning. And the morning after that...Long story short, she wrote a book called "The Artist's Way" about her many years of teaching seminars about reclaiming "our" creativity, and has had enormous success with what has turned into a series of books and teaching these seminars all over the world, literally.I can NEVER recommend this book enough. And I owned it and read it, cover to cover, probably 5 times before I ever actually attempted to start writing morning pages.By all means, look into it. From my perspective, you'll NEVER regret it.
