Sports Metal Cue

Post by Phuovine » Sat Apr 26, 2025 4:59 am

I was encouraged to use this to check before submitting so here I am. This is the listing:

Lots of EPIC HARD ROCK INSTRUMENTALS are needed for SPORTS PROGRAMMING by a very hard-working Music Licensing Company with a long and impressive list of sync placements! They are starting a WHOLE NEW DIVISION of their Company that's focused primarily on Sports TV placements, and this is a GREAT opportunity to jump in early!

This Company is searching for a range of Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:

"War Machine" by Entropy Zero ft. Cliff Lin

"Dominant Drive" by Seven-In-Music

"Into the Fire" by Asking Alexandria

Although one of the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this pitch.

Please submit original Hard Rock Instrumentals packed with epic sounds, great guitar work, high-intensity motifs, and loads of energy! This Company is looking for tracks that bring an exhilarating and "pumped-up" sound that could help amplify the energy and anticipation in live sports TV programming. Powerful guitar riffs, hard-hitting rhythms, great production, and exciting arrangements with plenty of forward development are all needed for this listing. Instrumentation in the general ballpark of the references will work best, such as big guitars, cinematic impacts, expansive sound FX, massive drums, etc. Please make sure that any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality and very realistic-sounding.

All submissions should be about 1.5 to 3 minutes long, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings are strongly recommended. Do NOT copy the reference tracks in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of ANY other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

And this is my track:

I've had my share of metal (not this type, though) in the past but doing this cue was a painful reminder that I haven't really maintained my skills in this department. So, what do you think? Submit worthy or not?

Excellent! IMHO that's a great track and on target for the listing. Perhaps its a little more metal than the refs but I reckon its still in scope.
Just a few thoughts, but its up to you whether they make any sense for you.
- I'm not sure you need the first 29s. The track could get right to the meat with just a drum hit of brief fill into that point, and the track would still be long enough to meet the listing requirements.
- There's an unusual sound that enters at 1:12 and 1:20 and its rather distracting, so I'd be tempted to lose that.
I'd say there's a great chance of a forward anyway, so its up to you.
Best of luck to you, and don't forget to let us know the result :).
Like it is, and 100% HI

I totally agree with Telefunkins response. I didn't have time to respond earlier, but gave it a listen and had the same thoughts. Great track, kicks ass, lose the intro (or put it in the middle/3 quarters way thru, better yet the concept of it as Tele mentioned in an earlier post) and just start with the meat. But great track bud!! Very cool

Thank you very much! The first ref track had a pretty long intro with dramatic drum hits so I thought that's what I need to do but I will gladly ditch the intro and follow the general guideline more. That's why I put those timpanis there too but I'll delete them. I wish I had time to do a few more of these because I wrote enough riffs that would fit. Now I only have my one shot.

One is all you need.
Have the rest as backups if you do get a forward and if the company does contact you. At that point you can give them the other tracks, by working on them in them meantime.
One to get your foot in the door, the rest to fill their needs.

That sounds like a plan. Let's just hope my only arrow hits the mark.

I realized I could've trimmed another 10 secs from the intro but oh well, here's the final version:

Thanks for all the tips!

Very good!
It leans more toward Metal than Hard Rock, however some of the references also carry a bit of Metal influence.
It definitely fits the listing.
Well done!

Yeah man!

I don't even like this style of music but I love your track! It grooves hard from the drop and you put in a lot of nice arrangement touches. (The periodic guitar tremolo is kick ass)

Good luck with it!

Wow, thanks to you all, you saved my day! I have to say, after joining Taxi I've had a big spike in energy and motivation. I'll have to learn to balance it all with work and family life but that's something I will learn as I move forward. Keep on rocking!
