Re: Starting a website?
I found one site that Broadjam recommends that only wants about $10 a year to establish your domain name..but the hosting reviews (we would not host there are bad) The price is much higher at www.register.com.How do we figure out a good company to register with that is inexpensive. OR could we feel safe going with first company as she is not going to host there? Thoughts?

Hey, I got my domain name at GoDaddy, which, like I said, is less than $20 a year and well-established. The reason I chose DoDaddy is I have a client who does a lot of web work and she uses GoDaddy to establish all her domains. Then services like Broadjam will typically host your domain for $20 a month. The results are at http://www.vikkiflawith.com H

Vikki did you add extras at godaddy like the privacy thing for $1.99 a year etc. I am unclear how all that works?

Hi, I think I did get the privacy thing but I let all the other stuff go. All I needed was one domain with my name. You can host your domain with a number of different servers. I actually have two domains, one for my teaching and one for my music. My local server hosts domains, I pay a small fee every month for that - I think it's $4.95 per month. If you have your own designed pages (not a template), you can switch servers easily by uploading your existing pages to the new server. If you are set up on templates then you'd have to cut & paste info from one to the other (or re-type it all into the new format). If that makes sense. However, using existing templates are certainly cheaper than paying someone to design a site for you.H
