Strengthen The Topline
Am I on point that the chorus is not popping enough in this submission? (Kinda flows in from the verses) The examples in the listing do the same thing. I think??
What I like most about this song:
You did a great job establishing the tone and vibe musically. The track is engaging and has an acoustic vibe that's in range of the references.
I think you could improve this song by:
Hi Robert, I would strengthen the topline and track melody. Your song needs to be catchier overall, the hook appeal isn't strong enough.
I returned or forwarded this song because:
Your song didn't have a strong, catchy lyric or topline melody. You need a hook that makes the song more addictive lyrically.

It goes where it's supposed to now but you need to make the track public for us to be able to access it.

Re: Strengthen The Topline
None of the links work, even in the re-post. Instead of hoping though you could test them yourself first.
- Paste your link somewhere, like in a text document or notepad.
- Log out of Taxi
- Close your browser (and better still, clear the broswer cache)
- Reopen your browser
- click on your link and see where it take you
The most common results are:
- 404 Error
- Taxi Industry Listings (but all of them rather than a specific one)
- Taxi Login - You must be logged in to access this page
You got the last two
Note that you also have to make your tracks public for anyone else to be able to listen to them. Also, expired listings are removed from the listings page (although they can be found elsewhere).
Sadly, every few days there's another post that includes broken links, so you're far from alone in having such difficulties. I wish Taxi would make it easier to get right, or at least make some forum orientation tutorial showing how best to navigate the challenges, Anyway, better luck next post

Re: Strengthen The Topline
Works now.
So are you asking if the critique is fair, or are you asking for clarity on what they meant?
To me, what you said up top is it--the chorus doesn't sound like a chorus, it just sounds like more of the verse. There's no lyric or melodic hook in the chorus that grabs you or is very memorable.
That's at least my interpretation of the feedback you got.

Re: Strengthen The Topline
Thanks, glad it works. The reviewer didn't specify song parts such as chorus etc. I'm trying to understand what the reviewer was referring to. I don't hear strong toplines or melodies that pop out in the reference tracks either. They are great tracks but the toplines are subtle. There is not a huge transition from verses to choruses. The bridges due tend to have increased energy. I could add an exciting hook to the chorus of my song but I think it would change the vibe in such a way it would no longer fit on a playlist with the reference tracks.

Re: Strengthen The Topline
Rtundo
I was able to listen at one of the posted links.
It's very far off the mark from what's described in the listing: unforgettable melodies, meaningful choruses, etc. Your song doesn't have a chorus. Listen to the first reference and how the melody uses higher and varied notes in to make a stand-out chorus. Also, the vocal performance, arrangement, production, lyrics, etc. aren't where they need to be for THIS listing.
Keep in mind this is for a possible $12K sync deal which makes the bar VERY VERY high.
After a while, members get to read and interpret listings better and better. Early on, we ALL have done "wishful" listening, thinking it's a fit when it isn't.
This does not mean it's a bad song. Just not a fit for a listing like this. I WOULD encourage you to write chorus driven songs in the future: verse-chorus-verse-chorus-(bridge)-chorus. This is the tried and true formula that has the greatest chance of commercial success. That doesn't mean a song can't make it without that structure, some modern songs do, but it's best to go by the rules at first and break them later. Sectional contrast is very important. If you're not familiar with the term as far as songwriting, there are lots of books that help.
Don't feel beat up!! We've all been there.
Best,
Casey
