Listen to the relative ambience of each string section and the piano
Listen to the panning of the strings.
Listen to the balance of high / mid / low strings.

You might look into writing 4 part harmonies too (SATB).

Thanks again for the continued advice, fellow TAXI passengers. Been listening to those pages andygabrys sent, and they've been very helpful. I wish, as my initial post indicated, I could find someone here in LA to sit with me and help me as I try to implement all these great suggestions. But I really appreciate the support here!

Search for four part harmony and voice leading to find other stuff if you want something slower paced. If you’re going for a smooth lush sound, this is important and something you can achieve with almost any library.
