Studio One upgrade Pro or Pro

Post by songmaster » Fri May 18, 2012 7:33 am

Hi everyone Just another question about upgrading to Studio One Pro. Considering that Studio One Producer and Studio One Professional both have the first 3 letters Pro. Which one is everyone talking about when they say I should upgrade to Studio One Pro ?

I realize one has more options than the other and is more expensive. I'm hoping the less expensive upgrade is the one we're talking about here. They both are 64 bit from what I've read.

I'm still having fun exploring Studio One Artist and it's a great learning experience.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Tom.

Hi Tom,

I always mean Professional when I refer to 'Pro'. I think that's fairly standard usage because with version 1 there was only Artist and Pro. Now there's also a freebie and the Producer.

Here's the comparison of the different versions.

I have both 32bit and 64bit versions of Pro installed as some of my plugs are still not available in 64. However, I'm not certain if Producer is also offered as 64. I suspect it is but worth searching the Presonus forum to see if this is the case. (Note: the 64 or 32bit versions of the program itself should not be confused with the internal audio processing engine which runs as 32bit floating point in the Artist and Producer, or 64 in Pro. These are two different kettles of fish).

I guess you have to decide if the additional features of Pro are worth the extra cost of upgrading beyond the Producer version.

Hi Rob Yes, I think you are right. My wife also said she has always considered Pro to mean Professional. It is probably worth it to up grade to that one and I now understand what you mean by 64 bit question. So , thank you for helping me make up my mind. I'm sure I will be further ahead in the long run. All the best .Tom.

I have Professional, but the thing that mattered most to me was VST support and you get that with either Producer or Professional. Most of the other things that differentiate Producer and Professional I've never used. I went for Professional because of the 64-bit support, but performance-wise I can't say I can tell any difference between 32-bit and 64-bit..
