Studio Photos!

Post by ernstinen » Mon Apr 28, 2008 6:50 pm

Hi My Friends,Many of you guys have been posting photos of your studios, so now it's my turn! Here's my CONTROL ROOM:A closeup of ELECTRONIC GEAR:A few COMPUTERS AND SAMPLE PLAYERS:My place for amps and storage, er, MY BOOTH:The double-paned BOOTH WINDOW:A couple MONITOR SPEAKERS (and my little friends):Rolls of foam left over from the interior of the booth wall, and a solid-core BOOTH DOOR:You'll notice some acoustic treatments in the photos. The big "picture" is actually a frame I made out of 1x2's that I stretched some arty fabric over. There's some bare walls, some carpet, some foam, some live surfaces, and some dead surfaces. The booth if pretty dead sounding inside, except for the door and window, which reflect some sound. Two speakers you can't see are some old 3-ways that have 15" woofers. They're embarassingly ugly, so they're hiding in the corners. Other vintage gear are my prized Marantz amp; a Sony turntable; an Ampeg VT-40 guitar amp; a Fender Deluxe Reverb guitar amp; a Prophet 600 synth; a Roland SH-101 synth; and one of the first Soundcraft boards ever made (my baby!). My '63 Stratocaster is at home hiding under the bed. Hope you enjoy the pics!Ern

Nice place Ern...NS-10s driven by a Marantz amp...can't go wrong with that!!!Guscave: the electricity to run that studio costs more than my gear! Nice though....except I'd geta little tired of having to roll so far to the right to adjust the gear. That's the problem with having space...everything would get spread out (not that I'd know )Silvercord, nice to see the improvements you've done. I can see why you like the 271's....the closed back keeps the bugs out while mixing.Do you mind if I get the layout plans off of you? Milfus might ask me to help design his vocal booth....

Light and breezy! Actually, my studio isn't as nice as the photos show. I didn't want to show the exterior. I have a few, er, noise problems that affect recording with mics at times:Ern

It DOES make a nice match for the NS-10s because those monitors are so mid-rangy and bright, with no bottom. I turn the bass up one notch on the Marantz, and the mids and treble down one notch. That makes 'em sound flat --- or at least as flat as NS-10s can sound! Ern

Ern, I knew you were up to some hardware tweaking when there wasn't any tissue paper over the tweeters LOL! P.S. At least your offsite recording room (by the tracks) has corrugated walls...that's almost as good as egg cartons I hear....

I think what I like best about that studio is the concept of no console to get in the way. The room seems like it was built for really "listening".
