Re: Submissions, Forwards, Deals Survey
Thanks for your input everyone. Thanks for the pep talk Mazz. I appreciate the time everyone's taken to comment. I think it is interesting to see that a lot of us here have already had some successes (small or big) which is very encouraging. It is sometimes easy to overlook those couple of library deals when the returns are coming thick and fast but like you say Mazz, that's always going to happen. As someone who's been writing and releasing albums for a little over ten years now I'm pretty used to getting rejections.
I feel like my writing has already come on in leaps and bounds in the few months since rejoining Taxi and the membership has definitely without a shadow of a doubt given me a huge boot up the backside again to take song-writing a lot more seriously.
Thanks everyone for your time.

Re: Submissions, Forwards, Deals Survey
Mark,
I joined in Feb 2011. I've submitted 28 tracks for 11 forwards and I'm in the process of signing a deal with a music library now.
All instrumental tunes. So about 5 months for me.

Re: Submissions, Forwards, Deals Survey
cameron,
let me help you out here bro.
the listing you refer to is:
MALE POP/R&B ARTISTS a la Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, etc., needed by an A&R Exec at a Major Label looking for new talent to add to their roster. First and foremost, you need to show you have Star Power, both vocally and visually. A confident, unique, well-developed vocal sound is key here, along with songs must have plenty of Radio Appeal! Show this label exec you understand what the industry is looking for Ð a solid talent who can rock a FAN BASE and deliver HIT songs. Memorable chorus hooks are vital here. (Think Bruno Mars "Grenade" or "The Other Side" as perfect examples!) High visibility on all the social media outlets will work in your favor! Please submit two to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Tuesday, August 23, 2011. TAXI #S110823RB
Submit to this listing TAXI # S110823RB
Now, as you can see by what TAXI posted, the listing doesn't even close until August 23. TAXI tells us we will hear sometime AFTER the closing date, typically 10-30 days; depending on a variety of factors including amount of submissions. Answers (forward or returns) can come as quick as a few days, but typically it's the 2 week range.
No one can tell you whether or not your particular song has been screened yet in general, but I can assure you your song has NOT been screened because the listing is still open.
The best thing to do is write, submit, and forget. It's a process, not an overnight transaction. I hope this helps you.
BTW, your questions are best directed on the right board. This board is usually for people who have gotten forwards, and they post a link to their composition so others can hear what the screeners were after. It proves very helpful when a similar listing comes down the pike.
And like in any taxi, buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Re: Submissions, Forwards, Deals Survey
13 submissions
2 forwards
3 pending
Member for 2.5 months
No deals yet
--------------
I carelessly submitted songs in the beginning from my existing collection of songs, but quickly changed my approach to writing specifically for listings, and when I did I got 2/2 forwards.
Too early for me to worry about not getting any deals - I like Taxi because I work full time and would never have a chance to reach captive supervisor ears in any other way.
