Submitting Already Forwarded Cues to New Listing?

Post by sperljam » Thu Feb 09, 2017 2:36 pm

I'm seeing new listings that some of my cues could work for - cues that have already been forwarded once. Is it wrong to submit a cue to another listing in hopes of getting deals quicker/more frequently? I don't want to mess up potential clients by doing the wrong thing, so hopefully you guys can set me straight on this.

I'm concerned that I'm supposed to consider my forwarded tracks "off-limits" to other listings since there's a possibility of a deal coming sometime in the next week/month/year(s). But that means I have to sit on these forwarded tracks, potentially forever, without knowing if a deal will ever come.

Part of me thinks that if I'm approached after Taxi forwards a cue, it would be bad form to have to tell a library owner that I already signed that track?

On the other hand, I'm in no position to watch listings go by that could raise my chances of getting a deal. In that line of thinking, unless a cue gets signed, it's open season for pitching it to other listings.

Is there a standard philosophy on this subject?

IMO you keep submitting until you land a deal. Keep writing too, so that if you do sign a track and then get a call from someone else, you can say, 'oh I signed that one last month, however, I have two more similar tracks available.' Folks in the industry should understand you can't sit on things. You have to keep pitching until you are successful.

The good news is that Forwards mean you are doing the right thing! Congrats.

Thanks, Vikki... that was very helpful. I was sort of leaning in that direction, but wanted to double-check.

+1 to what Vikki said. Keep submitting until you have a deal. A forward may or may not result in a deal.

Best of luck!

Send your music out until you strike a deal.
